Re: Team Green - Let's Talk Crib Bedding

  • I'm the SS. We have some white crib sheets from DD that we will use. I'm not planning on a big bedding theme this time around. Will probably order some pictures after delivery.

  • I am really not wanting to wait till after to order something and struggling to find a neutral I like (I don't want yellow/orange/green etc). I am debating mailing the gender to the seamstress and having the accent ties gender specific and waiting to open it once it arrives. Not decided obviously ;)
  • The only "bedding" we really used with DD (also Team Green for that pregnancy) was a mattress protector and crib sheets.  The protectors are usually white and are always covered up, so that was easy.  For sheets we bought a few neutral sheets with greens, browns, greys, whites, in different prints or animals designs, etc and I'm happy to use them again with this Team Green baby no matter what sex we end up with.  After DD was born I did buy some girly sheets on sale and use those too.

She received several gift blankets after she was born that are girly and those were eventually used in the crib too.

  • We had a boy and girl set picked in advance. The day Charlie was born, my hubs ordered the boy set. He wasn't going to be in his crib right away anyway so it worked out fine. In fairness, all we ordered were sheets, a crib skirt and the matching curtains.

  • I think I might wait until after delivery...I mean, they don't sleep in their crib right away, right? Doesn't the baby start off in a bassinet and then we move them to the nursery eventually? FTM so no clue, now I'm worried that it's weird for me to not have bedding beforehand haha.

Then again, I might just get something gender neutral because it would be nice to re-use for #2.

  • We waited with ds but had my eye on a few things. We use the set -blanket/bumper, skirt, etc, so it made more sense to wait.

  • We are doing gray and navy blue in the nursery and adding pink or yellow accents after birth. We picked a gray and white bedding set that we fell in love with!!!
  • I'd pick the base grey fabric to be used on bumper/skirt and pre pick the plum and navy fabrics for the ties and pillow accents. She'd do the plum for a girl or navy for a boy. Thats it. I'd have control but not know the end result till after delivery.

Still not sure yet what I'm doing. Seems like I'm the only one who likes the fluffy custom made bedding. I won't do just sheets. All my girls had custom crib sets.
  • I voted SS because last time I found out and still purchased neutral bedding.  I wanted a nursery and bedding that I could use again regardless of the sex of the second baby.  We'll find out on Wednesday if I needed to worry or not, but Skip Hop has a lot of cute bedding that can go either way.

    CHC arrived 6/2/14

  • I selected SS because I am making all of the bedding and it can be considered gender neutral but has lots of bright colors including pink and purple (smaller amounts than the other colors).  DH says it's too girly and what if we have a boy!  Well too bad, I see guys wearing pink and purple and every other color so why does it really matter?

  • I bought some grey chevron fabric to make the crib skirt and curtains. I also bought various fabrics to make crib sheets.

@krystaj, I don't think it's too masculine...it's madras! In fact, we nearly did DD's Anywhere Chair in that exact madras thinking it would be neutral.

  • I agree @amoot890 they do all look cookie cutter. I'm planning on making my own set, I make them on the side for people already. I like the idea of going with grey and then choosing the accents after birth. It's amazing how popular grey has gotten now. It won't be that hard for your seamstress either. Have her thrown in an accent pillow or something for you too to add some more of that plum or navy color. And you can get a head start and get the sheets, valance, and skirt out of the way. I'm so ready to find out what I'm having so I can start sewing!!

  • With DD we were Team Green, and we had a neutral stuff for the bassinet.  I waited until after birth to order anything for the crib.

This time around, same thing- but we will just wash whichever set applies (boy or girl) since we have one of each.  YAY to being able to recycle and use one of their cute stuff again!  :)

  • I plan on doing neutral colors and bright colors (all the colors!) in the baby's room.  Part of the reason I want to be Team Green is because I'd like to avoid as much "pink is for girls" and "blue is for boys" as possible.  The colors are for everybody!

I also already bought onesies in both "girl" colors and "boy" colors- I just get what I like.  I'm pretty sure my baby isn't going to give a pee-poo about what he/she is wearing.
