Trying to Get Pregnant

Digital vs. Dye Tests- What do you Prefer?

I am sure this has been discussed before, but I am fairly new and I couldn't find anything in a quick search so I was just curious what most women use.  I used a digital the first time we got pregnant and it was super easy, just said "pregnant" on it.  This time I have been using FR because I thought it would allow me to test the earliest, but I found out it is not worth it for me.  I literally stare at the tests for like 5 minutes straight to see if I see a faint line.  I have never seen a positive dye test in person so they tend to make me crazy.  I switched back to digis even though it means I will have to wait until we get closer to my AF to test because at 5 in the morning (which is when I usually test), I just need a straight forward answer that I can see quickly in the dark by the light of my phone rather than finding good light so I can look for faint lines and then proceed to imagine faint lines when they aren't there.

  • Dye - If I ever get a positive dye test, I'll use a digi to show H.

Wondfo dye.  WAY cheaper than other tests.  If I ever get a line on a dye test THEN i'll go spend the 8 bucks on a digi.  Digis are way to expensive to use on a regular basis when dye is just fine.

ETA:  Also, why not just turn on the light so you can see??

Are Wondfo's and dollar store tests just as sensitive? I wondered that the other day when I was looking at them at the store.  I usually do turn on the light, but then I can never go back to sleep, so I prefer to keep things as dark as possible, especially if DD is still sleeping.

  • I don't think I'll ever waste money on a digi. If I have a faint positive with a dye, I'll wait a day or two and test again.

  • I like wondfos, but in my experience they are not as sensitive (or at least the batch I had wasn't) as FRERs.  I have only taken a few digis and they were after a postitive FRER.  My hcg never got high enough to turn a digi positive.

When we were trying on our own, I planned on testing with wondfos and if I got a positive test with a FRER and then again with a digi.  For my IVF cycles, I used wondfos to test out my trigger and then got a positive on a FRER.  I don't know if I will test out my trigger this cycle because I drove myself crazy last time.

    PAIF/SAIF Welcome!

  • I've used both FRER dye and EPT digis maybe a handful (or two) times over the past two years when I thought I might've, could've, maybe been pregnant (but didn't know any better)... and I can't stand the digital "NOT PREGNANT" -  it's so blatant and direct and horrible and I hate them.  It's just right there in my face and it just hurts more it seems.  So because I need to be let down softly, I would only use the dye test in the future.  It's a stupid reason, I get that, but psychologically it's just easier for me.

  • I use the FRER ones and the dollar store ones. I have never used a digi bu I agree with @KrissyLeighN the 'not pregnant' would be to harsh for me to see and that's why I have never used one.
  • I only ever use  FRERs.  They are clear, a neg is a neg and pos is a pos.  But I don't test every cycle and if I do it's at 12+ dpo so I don't worry about squinters or how much the tests cost as much.
  • Dollar store tests, baby. They're cheap!  And great for wasting more tests. I would never spend the $$ on digitals every single month, I would have a harder time wasting those.  Plus my cheap tests are more sensitive.  I don't know why people have a hard time reading them, either. Of course, mine are always stark white so that's pretty easy to see.

I do have one digital in the house, to use when I see two lines. Just to see the word.

  • I use FRER, because I'm not an early tester, so I will only test when I'm late (exception was last cycle when I was trying to figure out when betas could happen around Christmas, BFN, awful, and why I don't test early). I have used digis twice, both times after positive FRERs to show H because they're nice to see. I think I have one of each left in the stash, I may not even use the digi I have because after I get a positive I'll go straight to betas.

  • I use dye tests because I like to test early. I have about a pack of digis that I am saving until I get a positive dye test.

Even if you *think* you see something but aren't sure, isn't the obvious plan of action to take another test?  I mean - problem solving skills here...
That would entail people have common sense.

  • But OP .. WHYYYY in the dark?
  • I've never bought a digital. I don't need the word "pregnant" to know I'm pregnant. I can usually tell when I see a line on my wondofo and I confirm with FRER.
    Fucking bump!!!!

  • Only time I used a digital was the Clear Blue digital that tells you how far along you are. I used it to see if my HCG was improving.

Other than that, a cheapie one from the interwebs does the job. Anyway, I'm not a tester. I've took perhaps 2 tests in the last 8 months.
  • I use WONDFOS and have FRER's around for when I make a WONDFO+. This last BFP, however, I never turned a WONDFO +. It was two days past AF with bunch of neg WONDFOS so I took a FRER and if was positive. But this was my chemical. Don't mean to hijack this thread but anyone else with chemicals have trouble turning a WONDFO, and only turned an FRER +?

With my chemical, the wondfo took forever to see a positive. I was confused for days. Everyone in the 2WW kept telling me the saw it but I wasn't sure. Then I bought some FRER and it turned positive immediately. The next month both turned positive immediately but I didn't mc until later.

    Fucking bump!!!!
  • Digitals are too expensive and less sensitive. So...

  • I guess I am not a tester.  I have only bought two boxes of tests in my life because I usually wait out AF and she is rarely late.  I tested this week because I was having minor surgery with a local anesthetic hence the reason I bought the dye tests because I knew I was testing early and I had to test everyday before the procedure.  Otherwise I usually am not testing so I don't pee on the digitals very often, but when I do I want a straight forward yes or no.  That is why I am testing in the dark and testing early this week.
