C-Section / Tieing tubes question

Hi ladies,

Do you know if you have a C-section and want to tie your tubes will they do it while they are in there? I have it on my list to ask the Dr. at my next appointment, but I am curious if any of you ladies know anything about it.

Re: C-Section / Tieing tubes question

  • Yeah, they would. You just have to tell them
  • Loading the player...
  • Yes, I signed all the paperwork to have mine done around the 20 week mark. My OB told me it will be another 5-10 minutes added into the surgery.

  • My girlfriend has told me that she requested her tubes get tied at her last c-section and says they did it all right then and there.

  • @toothpastechica that is my thought. I had a vaginal birth with my DD and I hope I get another vaginal birth with this little one. But, if it doesnt go that way, I want the Dr. to know that I want my tubes tide at the same time. My next appointment isnt until Feb 4th, but I have it on my list of questions to ask...

  • My ob gave me that option. Does not take that much more time

  • If you have an "emergency" section, they should still be able to do it. I'm not going to lie, most "emergency" sections aren't really an emergency. (I didnt say "all" no one get your panties in a bunch) Haha so as long as the baby and you are fine, they should be able to do it. I'm trying for a vba2c. If that goes as planned then my husband is having a vasectomy, if I have a repeat then I'll get my tubes tied while they're in there.
  • You can, but make sure it's something you discuss thoroughly with your OB beforehand... You'll have to sign a bunch of paperwork! Some OBs also won't do it for certain people (I've heard some won't if you're under a certain age and don't have a certain # of children).

  • I will be having another c-section and getting my tubes tied is on my list to do. I am a little nervous about it but I'll be talking more about it to my ob in two weeks.
  • @AcaAwkward I definitely plan on having the talk with my OB at my next appointment. Im 38 DH is 36 and this is our 2nd child. I am hoping they wont give us any stink about it. I doubt they will but you never know...

My OB is one of those. Won't tie tubes unless you are 25 or have 3 successful deliveries. (Vaginal or c-section)

  • Yes, in certain states there are laws about when you decide to also. In CA I had to sign the paperwork before 20 weeks, again in 3rd trimester, and will sign again before going into surgery.
  • rlmanning I am also planning on a vaginal birth and spoke with the doctor. I will go back in two weeks after birth for the consultation then 6-8 weeks depending on how birthing went I will have the procedure done.

Essure Non-Surgical Female Permanent Sterilization is what I am having done. There is a much less recovery time. I researched and found this option to be better for me

  • @natpirt if I am lucky to end up with another vaginal birth DH will get snipped before he gets any action from this momma. Our agreement is if I end up in a section then I will have it done, if I get my V birth then he will get snipped. Needless to say he is quietly hoping for the section as he is really terrified of being snipped. But like I said, I have carried and birthed 2 children for you, this is the least you can do for me :)

  • rlmanning. That I can completely understand. In my case even if he got snipped I would still have to go on a birth control method to help with period regularity. So this option works best for us I am most definitely done with having children (4 pregnancies and 3 children).

Yup -- me, too! I'm supposed to sign the paperwork around 30 wks.
  • I wanted to do this but my risk of a C-Section is very low. I have to wait 8 weeks and do it from my belly button.
  • My sister had it done at the same time. So did my mother.
