Tear ducts

Max's tear ducts are kicking into high gear. He wakes up and can't even open his eyes they are so crusted shut. Anything I can do? I've been wiping them with a warm wash cloth, but they just keep producing gunky yellow tears now. DD's were overactive and she eventually had to have surgery at 15 months to fix them.

Re: Tear ducts

  • All of my kids have had clogged ducts.  Massage it with your pinky and you can even try putting breast milk on it.  We clean it with warm compresses and a clean/wet cotton ball.  But with both boys, we needed prescription eye gel b/c they could no longer open their eyes.  It was so sad.  Most pedi's only use the meds as a last resort though, if nothing else works.

    Poor Max!

  • No personal experience, but I've heard the breast milk thing as well.  Hope that does the trick!

  • Put breast milk in eyes as often as you think of it. I know a mom who's dr. Said surgery was necessary but she persisted and it cleared up with breast milk!
  • I forgot that breastmilk fixes nearly everything. I'll start doing that. Thanks for the advice!
