@MissBHaven1024's shark fin got me thinking about birthmarks. Who has them and whose LO's have them?
My mom, myself, and all my siblings have lots of them. Some are more noticeable and get asked about - I have ones quarter size or larger on my calf, bicep area, and lower back. The one on my back is a little smaller than a dollar bill and purplish in color so I got asked a lot as a child if someone ever hit me. DD has a few, she had one above her lips that I thought was really cute when she was born and H hated but it has almost gone away. She has another one on almost the whole lower portion of one thumb that was barely noticeable when she was born but now is bright red and people ask if she sucks her thumb a lot which she doesn't.
Birthmarks aren't supposed to be genetic and they are supposed to fade away as you get older but that doesn't seem to be true for my family. Maybe we are special?

I don't have any birthmarks and neither does DH....or so we thought. When DD was born she had none. When she was about 2 months old we noticed some darker shading on her chest and arm. We asked the pedi about it because it was gradually getting darker and spreading onto her back. THEY FREAKED and sent us to a dermatologist and geneticist. They all thought it was a cafe au lait. Google that if you are bored. Turns out it's just hyper pigmentation. It's splotchy and covers half of her back, the same half of her chest and that same arm all the way to her pinky. It darkens with the sun in the summer and fades in the winter. It’s always noticeable to new doctors and we have to explain that its been checked out blah blah blah. Some people think its bruising but we've taught her that it’s her beauty mark and she's just special. I forget it’s there until someone asks about it.
Turns out DH has it on his arm but it's not as noticeable because of his arm hair. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
I'm grateful it's not on her face and hopeful that this baby will get more of my genes. I don't look forward to the days when she becomes self-conscious about it.

DS has a birth mark on his lower left area of his stomach. It's funny that he was conceived probably weeks after DH donated a kidney to his dad. And DH's largest scar is on his lower left area of his stomach. We said DS must have been marked. Lol
DS #1 born January 2010. DS #2 due June 2014.
