Re: FLuck you constipation

  • I'm sorry, constipation is the worst, especially when they can't express how they feel.

We have been giving DS about 1/4 cup of Motts Tots apple juice in his water bottle (1/4 cup total for the day) .  It's been helping for us.

  • We were doing well with diet change. Making sure she gets corn, baked beans, soy milk not regular and plenty of water. I also give her plenty of blueberries. They make both my kids go! Normally I can tell when it could happen and I can do a preemptive strike. It came out of nowhere today. So far we have done tsp of milk of magnesia, baby supposity, which got some out, Yogurt and now blueberries. She got some out and then after 20 min her body gave up and the rest went back in(tmi sorry). So right now she is calm but I'm on edge waiting for her poor little bottom to start pushing again.

  • Poor thing, hope that she gets it all out soon! When Wesley is having some problems and uncomfortable I give him the Little Remedies gas drops and they seem to help.  Good luck.

  • I am so sorry to hear this.  My daughter has had such a significant issue with this that we saw a pedi GI doc.  At its worst it had been 10 days without a BM (we were seeing the doctor throughout).  It was the hardest thing we've been through with her.  She is now on miralax everyday while her body recovers and gets used to pooping everyday (6 months).  The GI doc did educate me a lot on foods and I learned that pretty much everything I was reading online was not accurate.  Basically, that foods that have a reputation for being "constipating" are typically not.  We were then able to add in a lot of foods that we had cut out.

The miralax does work. It doesn't leave the digestive system so its safe, and its non habit forming because it doesn't make them poop, it just pulls water back into the digestive system to soften it.  It would require a discussion with the doc but when nothing else worked it really helped our girl.  It doesn't sound like you are there but I just wanted to share my experience and let you know that I know what you're going through and when all else fails there is always Miralax!

Good luck and I hope this passes quickly.

  • My pedi wanted to wait and see if diet changes could help before we started on miralax. Since diet changes it happens way less often than it use to. She did finally get it out. Ugh 2 hour process total from the first time she started crying and pushing. Pedi said as long as the little things we do can help within a day we do not need to move on yet to other measures. I know it can be so much worse like some of you saying it can take days but man oh man it makes me shake with sadness when it's happening. We do the bath sometimes but she is most comfortable on her belly when it's happening with her knees pulled up under her. She ends up getting upset in bath bc she can't get in the position she wants.

  • That position, with the legs tucked, works for my daughter as well.  If she is laying on her back while pushing and I push her legs into that position, it sometimes helps those big firm stools pass the rest of the way.

  • Also, I hear you on the difficulty of it all...1 day or 10, its a TERRIBLE thing to witness.  You just feel too helpless watching your child in pain and struggling like that.
