Natural Birth

Pregnant after loss and planning a natural birth

Hi everyone, I'm coming over to this board for some different advice/info after being an active part of 'Pregnant After Loss'.

A little background on myself... I am 26 and this past summer my husband and I lost our baby at 18 weeks due to UPD4. A rare condition the doctors referred to as a "1 in a million scenario that will not happen again". We are much more at peace this go around and I am currently 10 weeks 5 days pregnant. I have already had good feelings about this pregnancy (I still have bad days though!) and am trying to stay positive.

We didn't have an AWFUL experience having an induced miscarraige but once we got home I felt tricked and confused by conflicting things the 2 doctors we had told us while we were there. The first doctor was half asleep every time she checked me through the night. She induced me with cytotec which I had no clue about and later find out all these horror stories about. She then said if it didn't work I would have surgery. The second doctor said absolutely not to surgery because my uterus was so soft if I had surgery I could end up lossing everything or bleeding to death...... I was left in TEARS! So maybe it was an awful expereince... While I was pregnant previously I had planned on having our baby in the hospital but was going to try to go as natural as possible. During our loss I threw all of that out the window and decided I wasn't going to suffer to now have a baby in the end. I got the epidural and it didn't work. They had to re-insert it. I was told I was "too small" and it wouldn't take so my right side didn't numb and my left side got overly numb. They took it out at 3pm, I was told I would be able to walk by 6 and would be discharged. I couldn't walk until 6AM the next morning!! It was horrible. I thought something went terribly wrong.

Needless to say......... this time I have decided I want nothing to do with hospitals. Our families are worried since our last baby was so ill. We reassure them that no doctor could have prevented our babies diagnosis as it was a mishap that went bad from the time of conception. I understand our families concerns none the less though.

We are going with a midwife/birth center of a lady we go to church with. She's been great so far! Texts us that she's praying for us, is just a phone call away, and is so flexible and open with us.

I'm not nervous about a natural birth after going through what we went through last time I'm looking at the pain as something I will gladly go through to have a healthy baby in the end.

Any advice or tips would be appreciated. I am only just beginning my planning for this as I am getting closer to my 2nd trimester. Any tips would be appreciated!!! :-)

  • I am so sorry for your loss!

I'm glad you found this board, there are a lot of wonderful, knowledgeable people on here.  Have you checked out Hypnobirthing at all?  I had a great experience both times and it sounds like it might be a good fit for you as well.

  • I'm very sorry for your loss :(

I think with a wonderful midwife and supportive birth team, a home birth could be very healing for you!
