TTC after 35

I think I'm out before I even got started

I've only posted a few times on this board...was hoping to stay longer, but received some bad news from my "second opinion" REI.  This cycle, I was initially encouraged because I had two follicles and a good endometrial stripe without any meds on CD 9.  Did OPK's:  I had a "flashing smiley face" for three days (CD 11-13) and a "solid smiley face" on CD 14.  I went in on CD 21 for a prog level, and it was in the basement.  On CD 29 I went in again-- ultrasound showed quiet ovaries (no follicles) and my prog was still in the basement (I didn't ovulate after all).  In addition on CD 29, my FSH was 73, LH was 50, estradiol was 13.5.  REI says I have a 1% chance of conceiving on my own.  The hubby doesn't want to do DE...so I think it's over for me.  Best of luck to you all...

  • I'm on my phone in the airport so I have to keep this short. FSH means nothing if it is not CD3. Of course it is thru the roof on day30 etc with no activity. Your RE is an idiot for making a declaration of 1% on one cycle. Not ovulating can usually be fixed with some stimulating drugs. I hope some others will chime in here.

  • Never give up!!! It looks like from your siggy that you've only tried a select few things while TTC. Have other options been presented to you?   I also agree with @Mrs.McIrish's comments....she's always so right on!  You also have listed in there that they discovered Hasimoto's recently.  Have they regulated your levels yet?  I have the same and it can initially take quite a while to get it under control as Synthroid takes time to be absorbed and adjust your body.  As well it plays with other hormones and perhaps some of your b/w is due to induction of Synthroid to your body.

  • I'm no expert, but I tend to agree with McIrish.  I would definitely seek another opinion.  Is there a difference in an RE and an REI?  I think some of the standard tests to determine your chances for success would be day 3 bloodwork (FSH, AMH, & estradiol).  Did you have these done?  I'm not saying that your doctor is necessarily wrong, it just seems like it would be worth seeking out another opinion before giving up.

Wishing you luck no matter what you decide to do.

  • I agree with these ladies. Get another opinions. And I suggest reading Making Babies; it's written by an IVF specialist and an established acupuncturist and has a lot of interesting insight.

I'm hopeful for you. Don't give up yet.

  • I'm so sorry and I have no advice. Like McIrish stated hopefully someone else can give you some helpful advice on this since she is on a flight and can't respond right now. You could also ask the IF board about this. They are helpful as well.

Good luck and hopefully you can keep trying with just an easy fix of meds or something. Hugs...

    ME:46 MH:44 DE IVF 2014

One of her tests came back positive.  Waiting for another donor. Donor picked!! (1/18/14)

  • I appreciate the comments and recommendations.  My physician said that, at the level of FSH I have, stimluation drugs would not help me.  I have been taking Synthroid for a while, and my TSH is good (<2.5).  I have a known low AMH, of course.  I did conceive naturally in March, 2012..but nothing since.  I am getting positive OPK's at appropriate times...but she thinks they are "false positive" and that I am most likely not ovulating.  I've had normal 24-28 cycles until the last three cycles.  One was 13 days long, the other two have been 45 day cycles.  I guess it's possible that my fertility has gone south quickly in the last three months.  Not sure.  I will be 43 in March.

  • Just want to give you a ((hug)). I hope you find peace in whatever decision you come to. The board has given some good advice. If your cycles have been off the past few months maybe see if they return to normal and re-do the CD3 testing and see where you are at.

    All welcome

  • <<<Big Hugs to You>>> I know how hard this process can be.  My endocrinologist has always said TSH should be closer to the 1.0 range when TTC.  Perhaps yours even though its on the lower end of the range is still a bit high?

T&P that your fertility hasn't gone south so quickly.  I am 43 and will be 44 in a few months.  I had an appt with my RE just yesterday and he said most times fertility doesn't drop rapidly over a few months.  At my age I loved hearing that, lol. Not trying to give false hope, but I want us all on here to find success and hope that we all can.  I also have a friend who had a very high FSH on day 3 b/w (I think almost 30) and an AMH of like .1.  She did one IVF, got one good egg and became pregnant with her son who is now 1 1/2 years old. Is IVF and possibly with PGS a possibilty for you?

  • You were pregnant naturally 2 years ago, I would consider pursuing more avenues, look inot acupuncture, taking our gluten and sweets.

Find someone that is willing to work with your and your eggs!
