Anyone change doctors in their 39th week?

I was wondering if anyone changed doctors this late in the game...I went to my check up today and my doctor has always been kind of hands off with weird bedside manner but my friend had her so I decided to stick with it. Anyways, at my appointment, not only did she accidental read another persons chart thinking it was mine and told me that I was negative for strep b when I wasn't, she told me she thinks she entered the due date wrong.

I've been going off of a January 12th due date for 9 months and ultrasounds and measurements have shown that it has been correct give or take one day. She told me she wrote down January 22nd and that she might just have messy handwriting but the longer we can keep baby in the better....what?!?

Then I told her I went to the hospital last Thursday after leaving two messages for her that she didn't answer. I'm a first time mom so I didn't know what else to do. She sounded really surprised and asked me what they said. I told her is should be in my chart and she said 'oh yeah that sounds right' and then found it.

I was 3 cm dilated at the hospital and told her this, I asked her to check me because I've been having regular contractions but wasn't sure when to go in because even though they were bearable, I still should have 4 hours penicillin before baby comes. She said 'well I would but have some other patients so if you want to you can go into the hospital and they can check you'

The last straw was when the admin asked her when my due date was for the computer and the doc said 'I'm not sure but she can come out whenever she wants'

I feel frustrated and scared now because this is my first and I really don't know what to expect. I called another doctor and have an appointment tomorrow but don't know if it's the right decision to change so late in my pregnancy. I was never too fond of my doctor but this last appointment had me leaving in tears.

Has anyone gone through something like this? What did you do/would you do?

    When did you start noticing the doctors inconsistancies? I would have changed weeks ago. Well, all & all, I never had that issue, but get a new doc stat.
    Pregnant with #3, after thee, three's complete!!

    I have never heard of a doctor taking a new patient at 39 weeks. You will be extremely lucky if you find someone who will.

    I'd say it's fairly unlikely that another dr will take you at this point unless you have some pressing reason (ie change in insurance, just moved to the area and don't have access to your previous dr, etc). Have these issues been going on the whole time or just at this last appointment? If it was a one shot deal, maybe bring it up to her at your next appointment and let her know how you felt pushed aside and as a FTM you are just looking to her for guidance and to instill confidence since you are nervous.

    I had the same issues with my original OB. He kept documenting things very wrong in my chart, like asking me didn't I have a tubal ligation? (NO!) And he was always saying disturbing things that made it clear he didn't care. I switched to a midwife in my first trimester and then had to get a new OB in my second for health complications. VERY happy with the new guy.

    I think you're doing the right thing and I'm sure you'll be able to find someone else. Sounds like anyone would be better than her at this point.

    My appointments are always with different doctors and midwives because the office said it was mandatory so I could meet all the people who could be possibly deliver my son.

    Man I would of switched earlier but now it's late in the game you may not like the next doctor you meet a week before giving birth. If it were me at this point just obviously don't let them induce your or do a csection and just wait for your body to tell you when it's time for baby to come so you don't try and deliver early based on her terrible docketing of information. But definitely switch for next time around.,

    Married: 5/09 ~ TTC Since: 10/10 ~ PCOS ~ Progesterone from 10/10 - 2/11 ~ HSG on 3/18 - Clear ~ Started Metformin 1000mg & Clomid 50mg 2/11 ~ Metformin upped to 1500mg 4/6 ~ 6/7 Now going to SG and put on Clomid, Ovidrel, Gonal F, Prometrium, Estrace ~ IUI #1 7/2 = BFP!!!!!! March 6th our little man was born. 

    6/17/13 - Ovidrel, Follistim, Prometrium ~ IUI #1 7/2 = BFP! March 17th our St. Pattys day baby arrived

    10/29/17 - Started process for IVF, got pregnant & miscarried a 2nd time since summer. 2/22 started stims - Menopur, Gonal F, Cetrotide - retrieval 3/6 - , PIO, estrace 3xday - FET 4/18 = Beta 1: 616; Beta 2: 1342 = BFP

    I would keep in mind that sometimes it takes a while to switch records over.

    In my area it can take a few months.

      If I had those kinds of issues with my OB I would have switched a long time ago but at 39 weeks I'm not sure it would be worth it.

    Is there another doctor at the same practice that you can switch to? Other than that, I don't see it being easy.

    Sorry you're feeling this way. I just switched my doc at 29.5 weeks because of similar issues (lack of attention to details, I often felt uncomfortable, etc). I wish I would have changed sooner, but there's nothing I can do about that now.

    The only advice I can think to offer you is that it never hurts to ask. Call a few offices, explain your situation and, if they say no, you're no worse off than you are right now.

    I think it helped that I switched to another doc who delivers at the same hospital. Because both use electronic records, the second had all of my tests, medical history, etc, readily available. Not sure if that's an option for you, but thought it was worth mentioning.

    If you cannot get a Dr to take you on as a new patient, when you go in to the hospital you could refuse to have your Dr see you and request the on call If that is your plan I would request a copy of your medical records NOW and keep them with you so you have them to bring to the hospital. Hang in there.
