Your House temperature!

For those with outside babies, how warm are you keeping your homes? We kept it at 68 for a few days (it was the temp of the NICU rooms on certain days) and Jacob seemed super fussy. I just attributed it to gas. Today I was using the oven and it warmed up the house to 72 and he was ok sleeping on his own for a good two hours. DH is trying to be cheap with the oil but it's super cold outside and we have a tiny baby. I'm trying to convince him we should keep it at least at 70 degrees.

Re: Your House temperature!

  • Ours is at 68. LO has been wearing sleepsacks with a onesie underneath, a hat and those cotton mittens to keep him warm at night.

  • 67. Our house is leaky and gas is like 300 a month in the winter as it is!

Does your monitor have a temp gauge? Sometimes the temp within our house varies a lot so it's hard to know what a bedroom actually is at... Maybe you could try a fleece sleep sack for another layer if you haven't.

  • 68 here, but I'm in Southern California, so the heat barely ever kicks on

  • We guzzle the propane ;) Our house is set to at least 72. When it was frigid, DH had it set to 74. I'm always hot in the main part of the house, one reason I've retreated to the addition (MUCH cooler, not really insulated).

  • 69-70, with the fireplace going most days!
  • I still have an inside LO, but we keep ours at 68. I walk around barefoot in t-shirts and I'm comfy. Everyone else thinks it's cold. Were in the negative and single digit temps here. Once LO comes I might bump it up to 70.

  • 65 during the day and 64 at night. We have little electric space heaters in the kids' rooms though and we usually have a fire going in the living room.

  • 65, but DH complains all the time that he's cold. I still sleep with the fan on at night. But our gas bill was high last month so half the time I just turn the heat off. It got down to 45 the other day before I switched it back on. Obviously after LO gets here I'll keep it on.

  • My little man's still an inside baby but we are going to keep the house at 68 and layer him up. I bought some long sleeve undershirts to put under his sleepers. He'll also be swaddled at night so I am hoping this will keep him warm enough!

  • @kvochka did your nicu send you home with a halo back sleep sack? My NICU puts all of the babies in cribs in them and it really keeps Ashton nice and toasty.
You can wrap their arms in it like a swaddle or leave them out.

  • @tylynngrace I actually have two of these and a bunch of swaddlers. He hates them all and screams bloody murder. Only likes a body suit and socks. Who knew he could have such a temper for a tiny little baby. I'm keeping the house at 71 through the night and I'm going to see if it helps with his sleep. Thanks everyone.
  • Still have an inside baby here however we keep our house at 63......this could be interesting when baby finally decides to join us! We got quite a few warm outfits and sleepers and such to keep her warm but it didn't cross my mind so much about what if she hates being in clothing......
  • Still inside baby here but 68.
I will say that my nephew always seemed colder than my niece so sis kept him in onesie and fleece pjs with fleece blanket (when he got older). Niece was a hot body like her mom.
Like the saying goes, every kid is different.
  • We keep ours between 68-72.
  • The NICU told us at least 72 for Noah. Personally, I probably wouldn't have the heat on at all because I like it cold. I keep it warm for him and bundle him up to keep his temp stable. I'm on fire but he likes it!

  • This winter we have had the house on 70 with an additional heater in our 19 months room for bed time! I'm burning up and so is my husband but the little man appreciates the heat during the day! I'm pretty sure we'll keep it at 70 once the baby baby gets here!! 5 days to go!!
  • We used to keep our house around 68, but when Oz came home from the NICU, we bumped it up to 71.  Now that he's bigger and can maintain body temp like champ, it's not as crucial.  We still keep it 69 to 70.

  • Our apartment sucks with retaining heat so I'm not sure of the actual temperature. I set it at 74-75 abut estimate the temp we feel in the bedroom is 70-72, more or less depending on the day. Quinn will fuss when cold!

  • Well, it turns out that DH thinks 60 is cold. He woke up at 3 this morning for being cold, and came downstairs to find out our furnace had died. He called the local guy to come fix it, and expected to pay $400-500, or be told the furnace needs replaced. Nope- less than $200, and we're much warmer! 30 minutes from call to fixed furnace = worth it!!!

So glad that happened before LO came! I'm still in the addition, several degrees cooler than the rest of the house, and quite comfy!

  • 65-70 our house is heated by our wood stove but our bedroom has been so cold lately we've been sleeping in the livingroom. We live in a 2 story leaky log house with a loft and high ceiling. Upstairs will suffocate you though.
  • We keep it around 72 during the day, and 69 overnight with gas heat.

  • We keep it at 60 normally...freezing. We know we need to turn it up once LO arrives!
