Who has taken LO to the dentist? And am I a bad mommy if I haven't yet? Oh and I just bought a toothbrush for LO last week and only used it twice so far...i feel like this is a FFFC...

  • We brush every night. Last week D started giving me a hard time about it because he wanted to do it himself. So now he takes the toothbrush and tries to do it all by himself.

We have an appointment with the pediatric dentist next month. Mostly because our pedi recommended it since this is the age in which kids are falling more often and might need to see the dentist if something happens to their teeth.

  • With both of my kids, where we have had different doctors for both, the docs recommend 3 years for first visit unless you see problems.
I think that is based on the likelihood that the kid will freak if put in a chair and a strange person looking in their mouth, possibly poking around.

DS only has 8 teeth at 13 months. DD had 16 teeth by the same age and all 20 by 18 months.
I just took DD to the dentist with me for my cleaning one day when she was 18-24 months. The doc looked toward her while she laughed and smiled and jabbered. He didn't see any cause for alarm, so her first official visit was when she was 3.5 yo.

On the brushing note, I only used the finger brush for a month when DS got his first teeth because he always bit down. Since then it's been an actually handled toothbrush. And for the last 3-4 months he has been brushing his own teeth. Then we make sure they are clean.

  • I brush every night as part of our routine. Well...I brush and thn he tries to brush himself...lol. We have a friend who is a pedi dentist. He said no appt until about 2 and a half or 3 unless there is something wrong.

  • We haven't gone yet, but its on my to do list.  She just got her top two teeth, so she only has four.  I felt dumb going to the dentist with a kid that has little to no teeth.

We don't brush regularly either.  Sometimes to keep her entertained while I get her dressed I will let her chew on the finger brush.

  • I don't brush his often, twice a week if I remember. I'm using the finger brush, he bites me like crazy and also try's to eat the tooth paste off, it's a real challenge. I did get a few handled tooth brushes, and it let him play brush with them from time to time, but I haven't used one on him myself yet. He has 8 teeth right now.

  • We have a tooth brush, but haven't used it yet either.  My dentist said that they won't need to see DD until she's older.  She said that when we bring DD into the pedi, that they're checking to see if there are any major problems.

  • We brush morning and night. I brush first then he does. I also wipe his gums
with a wet washcloth. We've been doing this since he was born.

All three family members that are dentists, and one who does pedi dentistry said to not worry about it until 3 years unless we see something or he has unexplained or horrible halitosis.

  • I bought Zane a tooth brush when his first teeth came in as a chew toy.
I brush his teeth every night in the bath.
I guess I will be taking him in when all of his teeth emerge. (Bad mom right here too!)
