NBR- Seen any good movies lately (in theater)?

I get off bed rest on Friday. DH and I are celebrating by going out to dinner and a movie. There are several out that I want to see but haven't heard any great reviews...

Opinions ladies?! :)

Also, Saturday I'm going to get a pedicure!!! sigh.... my poor fat toes need some TLC.

  • My DH and I went on a date the other night and saw Frozen. My stepdaughters saw it without us and kept talking about it so we wanted to be able to be in on the jokes. We both thought it was really cute and got some good laughs from it.
  • If it's still out The Desolation of Smaug was really good. :)

I've seen a bunch of movies lately.  New Hobbit, American Hustle, The Butler, Lone Survivor, Saving Mr. Banks.  Honestly, SMB was my favorite of those listed, though The Butler was great, too!

I had read Marcus Luttrell's book that Lone Survivor was based on.  It was much better (of course) and I was disappointed in the movie because they left out a lot of what was much more relevant to the story.  But, of course, it's Hollywood and the violence sells...
  • DH and I are movie nerds and we go a few times a month  :\"> We saw the new Hobbit but I wouldn't suggest it because it's soooo damn long and not practical when you have a baby bouncing on your bladder for three hours. We're looking forward to seeing Lone Survivor on Friday.

We saw American Hustle and The Wolf of Wall Street and really enjoyed both. American Hustle was better, IMO. I am really looking forward to seeing Her and August: Osage County.

I can't sit for that long. Wish we had seen the new hunger games, but we missed the window for that one :(

  • DH and I just saw Catching Fire on New Years Day and it was pretty good. It is tough to find the time to see movies and someone willing to watch DD for us. We are hoping to see one more movie before baby is here.

  • I saw "Saving Mr. Banks" and it was really good...much much better then I thought it was going to be. I would recommend it...

  • We've seen Saving Mr. Banks and American Hustle.  I liked both a lot.  One thing to be warned about though is that while Saving Mr. Banks is a great movie, it's being marketed as a lot more "feel good" than I think it is.  P.L. Travers had a relatively unhappy childhood and there are a lot of flashbacks to it.

I really want to see Wolf of Wall Street next.  I've just heard that it's really long (almost 3 hours), so haven't wanted to pay our babysitter for long enough to see it and have dinner yet :)

  • I'll throw in another vote for Saving Mr. Banks. Really good movie!

  • Lewin Davis was really good, if y'all like more of an artsy film, great music.
  • Frozen!!!! We went as a date, without DD, and we both loved it! Saving Mr. Banks is next on our list.
We go to kid movies all the time by ourselves - DD is too young to appreciate them.  It was a little embarrassing to tell the babysitter that we were using our once-a-month date night to see Monsters University over the summer, though :)

  • I've been putting off going to the movies because of my bladder!!! I just can't sit still for that long, and any movie I'd want to pay money for I don't want to miss even three minutes of!!! I'm glad to hear that all the movies I've wanted to see are worth renting!
  • Have recently seen Dallas Buyers Club, American Hustle and her -- all were really good but I LOVED her, which was just refreshingly original and beautifully done. Will probably try to sneak in a few more over these last few weeks including Nebraska, The Wolf of Wall Street, and August: Osage County. But I highly recommend her...

  • I loved Wolf of Wall Street. I don't mind the heavy drug use and language...however I could definitely see how it would not be appealing to others!

Her is on my list - I've heard great things. I have not read good things about August:Osage County, though.

  • Her is a must-see! Got a 91 (out of 100) on metacritic. That's huge! My friend who works in "the industry" has been raving about this movie. I can't wait to see it!
  • Thank you for the input everyone!!! :)
