My husband saw one of those horror story articles about the pouches and so he is pretty set against them. Rare that he gets that opinionated about something, so no pouches it is.

I'm totally icked out by the pre-made pouches so I make my own. I don't think I'd be able to buy them off the shelf either, especially considering the fact that you can't even see what your child is eating. They should make those dang things transparent.
I might make my own, since I have fun making food! My parents got me a 5 qt Cadillac of crock pots, so since I am obsessed with making dinner in it I have lots of time to make fresh baby food. I even started juicing for my picky toddler! I feel productive, to say the least.
I have some of when we are out. I squeeze onto a spoon so I guess I can "see" it as much as any food. However I'm sure at some point I'll let her eat directly from a pouch because I will have forgotten about all the pouch drama . I would probably buy more, but they are a lot. More expensive then the jars and I'm cheap (don't get me started about how annoyed I am that the jars are cheaper than home made).
I got an Infantino pouch station for Christmas from my SIL so I intend to try it out when my LO is a little older and able to feed himself out of the pouches. Right now, I freeze his food in ice cubes so that for each meal, I can mix any two cubes depending on the mood.
But I will be trying store bought pouches when we travel this weekend.

I did the math and making pouches is pretty much a wash (or possibly a little cheaper) than buying them, and about the same as jars. The Infantino disposable pouches are about 30 cents a piece, and you can even get reusable pouches which get many uses. Even buying organic produce, I can make a whole bushel of pouches that net less than $1 each, averaging closer to 70 or 80 cents depending on what ingredients I use.
SS: We make all of our own food, and I have been thinking of buying the equipment to make homemade pouches but can't decide if I want to or not. I am leaning towards no because hopefully in a couple of months he will be moving away from the purees and eating more finger foods.

I guess it depends on the area that you live in as far as cost goes. We did the math, and even though we buy organic for many of LO's ingredients, it's still cheaper than jars. The only exception would be that sometimes I can do coupon deals where I get free jars, so obviously in that case the jars were cheaper. I already gave the jars I got away to someone else, though, once we decided to make our food instead.
I don't plan to use them regularly, but I will probably have a few on hand for days where we are in the go. I got a couple of the little spoons that screw right onto the pouch so that would be fun to try.
@graceinca for most veggies it's cheaper to do homemade but every time I look to buy fruit I might as well buy the jars @ $0.75 and save the time, because I'm lucky if I break even. A lot of that might have to do with living up north. Should have stocked my freezer in the summer....

Even here, fruit can get expensive. But I try to never buy out of season. Right now apples and pears are abundant, so I buy those. I throw in quince and asian pears and fun stuff when I get a good deal. Also bananas are cheap here year round. I'm pretty sparing with berries, except blueberries that I can get pretty cheap. Also, we have a wonderful farmer's market out here every Sunday, and I score pretty well out there too. I think this would be very different if I lived in a different climate.
I use both jars and pouches but always portion out what I am going to feed her into little bowls so that I can see everything and not contaminate the containers.
We haven't started yet but I plan on trying to make some homemade ones. I never used them with g but I think they may be easier to send to daycare than my little tupperwares.
We spoon feed from the pouches. I heard scary things about BPA in even organic baby food jars and started buying pouches when DD #1 was a baby.

I usually make my own food, but bought a couple pouches to try (hoping DD will like sucking them so eating on the go may be possible). I would love to try the Infantino pouch station, but I haven't been able to find it in Canada and shipping from the US (along with the refills, etc) just doesn't seem cost effective. Any Canadian mamas looking at pouches, my DD liked the PC Organics one we tried today (banana, sweet potato and blueberry). So I think they'll work well as a backup
I do. I think they are brilliant. If it were summer and I could get locally-grown organic food, I would be more gung-ho about making my own. I still do some (and lots of BLW) but I really like the pouches as well.
Ella's Kitchen, Happy Baby, and Sprout have some great combos that honestly, I am not going to take the time to put together.
