Recommend your convertible car seat

For those of you who have made the switch to a convertible, which one do you have and what do you like or dislike about it?

I have a Britax Chaperone in a 2013 Murano, and it's a tight fit, but I have been happy with it, despite how heavy it is to lug around (which I don't much anyway). LO is about 50th% on height and weight.

Any recommendations?

Re: Recommend your convertible car seat

  • The FB group Car Seats for the Littles is awesome at giving recommendations based on your kid's stats and your car and budget.  The Graco MySize/Size4Me/Headwise (same shell at different retailers) is a great long lasting seat that comes highly recommended, same with the Chicco Nextfit.  For a lower budget, the Safety 1st Guide 65 is a good choice.  Britax seats aren't usually recommended for kids over the 30th percentile for height because they have shorter shells.  That said, it depends on what your rear facing goals are.  All kids need to rear face to a minimum of two and even Britax seats will accomplish that with tall kids but if you'd like to "true" extended rear face, they aren't a smart investment.

  • My girls are all 95% and above for height, so we don't have a lot of choice in long lasting convertible seats. Right now DD2 is rear facing in a Graco MySize (3.5 years, 37 lbs, 41"). DH just switched her to ffing in our Diono Radian. We also have a First Years TrueFit that's currently in grandma's car for DD3.

  • We have two Evenflo seats. I have the Symphony 65 for my husband's truck in the extended cab (works up to 110 lbs as a booster) and then a Triumph 65 in my little Cavalier. The Triumph goes up to 65 lbs. It's a bit misleading with them both being 65 :) They also both have cupholders and latch systems although I use my seatbelt with my car since it's too old for latch.

  • We have the Graco Headwise, I for the most part like it but the straps can be a pain to tighten. I agree with @elmoali , the Facebook group was really helpful in helping me decide what to buy.

  • In our bigger car we have a Maxi Cosi Pria 70. It's so comfy and DS loves it but it is pretty big. It wouldn't fit in a regular car. My mom has a safety first for her car because she watches him for us during the week. I think we may get a Diono Radian for DHs car once we start sending him to day care at about 12-14 months. He's 7.5 months but really tall. He's 30inches and 21 pounds.
  • We have and love our chicco Nextfits
