Hi Ladies. On Thursday, we're hoping to find out during the ultrasound if we're having a boy or a girl (I'll be 17w 3d, going for the u/s and genetic counseling appt since I'm 35). My friend's husband told my husband to make sure I drink a coke/diet coke before the appointment to get the baby moving around. I'm not sure if would be from the cold drink or the caffeine (which I've been drinking only once in a while). Has anyone heard about this? This is our first baby, so I'm still new at all of this!
How exciting! We were told to drink cold Orange Juice, so we did, and she was bouncing around all over the place! Hope this helps, and good luck on your ultrasound!
Mine showed fine, but anything with sugar in it makes him pretty active. I had a few cookies earlier today and he spent the next half-hour dancing up a storm. I was almost tempted to eat more cookies to keep him going. Anyways, I think the orange or apple juice suggestions are probably the best idea.
I just drank cold water. They tell you to drink water anyway just so your bladder is full enough. The tech asked whether me or DH was the hyper one because the baby would not.stop.moving. lol. I've also heard some techs get upset by people drinking sugar/caffine to get their baby to move because it makes it harder to get their measurements done.

I didn't do anything special when I went for my ultrasound Friday. The only thing I was told to do was have a full bladder but the tech said I'm far enough along and baby is big enough without having to have a full bladder.Just ask your doctor for any suggestions
Just drink juice or eat whatever you usually would. I was told about the coke also but didn't drink it since i've had little to no caffeine since I found out. I just ate yogurt and my little guy wouldn't stop moving around. Poor ultrasound girl had to work extra hard to get all the measurements she needed. Good luck and enjoy it's so exciting!!
I've also heard that OJ helps wake up a sleepy baby for ultrasounds. But you might not want to do it before the appointment--the techs really prefer a more relaxed baby to get all the measurements they need. I was going to bring a travel OJ with me in case the baby was too relaxed to show the goods, but I'm glad I didn't drink it before. Our LO was active enough without any help to keep the tech busy, and we actually didn't find out we were having girl until she calmed down a little and let the tech get a good look.
We had our ultrasound last Friday and I had a cup of coffee before hand and the baby was all over the place! Much more active than my son at his 20 week ultrasound. We are Team Green this time around but the u/s tech said we wouldn't have been able to find out the gender even if we had wanted to!
My place told me not to eat or drink anything special beforehand b/c they would rather have a calm baby to get all the measurements. If they need the baby to move around there, they'll have you drink water or walk around. Call your u/s place and ask. Also ask if you have to have a full bladder---not every place will make you. Good luck!

This. It doesn't take long for the OJ to get into your system. Baby wasn't cooperative at my NT scan so the tech had me try walking around and going to the bathroom. Woke him/her up just fine. She said OJ would have been the next step.
We didn't do anything special and saw the goods @ < 16w, since they are very active. I wouldn't drink soda, that stuff is awful.

Sugar would be more effective than caffeine. But I had both with our second and she was tightly rolled up in a ball! We didn't get to find out what she was until three weeks before she was born. But that's unusual, he/she will be most likely be in the right place and moving around!
I was told to drink tons of water for a few days before the ultrasound and to bring cold OJ to the ultrasound. I was told not to drink it unless instructed to do so.
