Ready to throw in the towel

I am so tired of my nipples and boobs hurting. I'm exhausted and depressed. Lo won't latch and I have to pump constantly and my supply is super low. We are already supplementing over half with formula. My pumped supply seems to be drying up even more. Im going to see a lactation expert this Friday as a last ditch effort. I feel like a horrible momma and am just so done.

Re: Ready to throw in the towel

  • Hang in there ! I saw the lactation specialist three times before little mans latching issues were resolved.

  • I struggled with this too!  My LO wouldn't latch, hated the boob most times, and I ended up feeding him with pumped milk and formula after struggling with trying to get him latched... he hated it, i hated it.  So, I threw in the towel with BF and now pump so he gets half and half.  To increase my supply, I have been taking an herbal supplement - fenugreek - and it has helped.

ha, this is the exact same as me!  except yesterday I tried again with nursing (w/ the nipple shield we were using before) & her latch was way better! she is 4 1/2 weeks now.  Even if your LO has bad latch issues & you have to use just bottles most of the time it never hurts to try again!  sometimes as they get practice with the bottles it can actually improve their latch a lot!  OP that's good you're going to a lactation consultant, they can help a lot!  If you need to take a break & do bottles for awhile don't feel bad!  you are not a bad mama, & you can always continue pumping & try baby on the breast again a little later after latch improves.
  • I'm ready to give up as well. DD has a great latch but my supply is next to nothing so she's been getting formula while I've been pumping trying to increase my supply. Unfortunately, she had to be given formula in the hospital because she needed to eat a lot to treat her jaundice. And I was not pumping much when I was there, which I really regret. When I try to put her to my breast she latches briefly and then gets mad that she's not getting what she wants. I went to a lactation consultant yesterday and she recommended motherlove more milk plus supplement. I just ordered some and if that doesn't work, I'm done. I would've thrown in the towel already but I feel some pressure from DH to keep trying, though I know it's not up to him.
