Age gaps ROCK!

This is probably a dear diary type post but I just wanted to say that age gaps between kids totally rocks! The age difference between my DS and my DD is 11 years. My son is so amazing and in love with his little sister. He is super helpful and loves to pick her up when she is fussy or just wants to be held. He was a LIFESAVER when I had the flu; he would change her diaper and bring her to me so she could feed then would offer to burp her. He is also at that age where he is independent so there aren't any of the jealousy issues I was afraid of. He goes off and does his thing, checks in and plays with us, then goes about his day, playing. Its pretty awesome. I think there was a benefit to him having 11 years, mainly just him and I. If I could wait again before the next, I totally would but I'm too old to let that much time pass again, LOL.

While the original plan was to "pop em out" one after another, there was a different plan for me and I am super thankful for the time I got to spend with my super-special boy :)

Edited to add a pic of the two ❤️ Sideways cuz I'm mobile!

  • So adorable! DS1 is 4 years old, and although the age gap isn't as large, he's still amazing and a terrific helper :)

  • I am amazed at how much my almost 3 year old wants to help so I can only imagine how great it must be to have an older child that wants to help out :) Your kids are super cute !
  • I'm the oldest of three. There's 10 years between me and my middle brother and 16 ( yes I meant 16 ) years between me and my youngest brother.

Not only is it great to have such large age gaps for help ( I was a little mother hen with my brothers and still am ) but great birth control for me. There was no way I was getting pregnant before I was ready.

And now my son's uncles are 16 years old and 10 years old. It's really fun to see them "play" together.
  • I agree too. My step kiddos are 10&11. My daughter is super helpful and Avery adores her. My son is a little iffy but coming around. It's nice that the older ones can help and they can take care of themselves if needed from time to time:)
  • I wish ds1 was a little older (16 months) but at the same time I know once this phase passes they will be super close (hopefully)
  • My sisters and I are 3 years apart. We are so close now that we are older and I adore the relationship we have now. There are definitely benefits to both, age gap's big and small :)

  • Mine are 15 months apart and my 17 month old is helpful too. He throws things away and puts clothes in laundry baskets... Things like that. Not the same kind of helpful as OP but helpful none the less.

  • I am sure my stepson, who is 8, will be super helpful once we get him for the summer. He facetimes with us several times a week and always asks about J first and told us the other day how awesome it is being a big brother even if they have not met yet. I hate that he lives so far away:(
  • Want to talk about age gaps, while LO was playing on his play mat, our oldest was filling out her college application! Lol! My DHs youngest boy is 12 and he is a god send too, always wants to help. I love it!!! Funny how things work out!
  • Mine are almost exactly 2 years apart.  (Nov 5 and Nov 8 birthdays)  There are times it is challenging but I have to say I wouldn't change it for the world.  ODS is amazing with his "little brother" and constantly wants to help and throw diapers away, get diapers etc.  I'm so glad that they are close in age.  We are done having kids so that is kind of a relief in itself.

This is DD!  She will be 4 next month and wants to help all the time.  She gets me diapers, wants to see if he has peed or pooped, likes picking his outfits, does tummy time with him, gives him her stuffed animals and covers him back up with a blanket when he kicks it off his swing.  So cute!!!

  • And I thought my 3 year old was a big help!!! I'm extremely happy I have a significant age gap though.
