side eyeing new daycare employee

Ok, tell me if I am wrong in thinking it was a bit odd that a new caregiver at my daughters daycare and I had this conversation.

LO is wearing black pants, pink socks, long sleeve pink shirt with a black heart on it.

"Oh, is this your baby?"

"Yes."

"Wow! He looks nothing like you. Is his dad a different color than you?"

 

I just found the whole conversation odd ....

    All of that is strange and kind of offensive. Especially for a new employee, that's pretty bold and rude to make comments like that.

    Ok. Thanks for the validation. I wasn't sure if I was being overly sensitive about it. Yes my baby is mixed, but I did think it was a bit bold of her to say something like that. She was pulled aside after and talked to by one of the directors so hopefully she develops a filter. And honestly if you were concerned about a person picking up or dropping off a child it is in the policy they can ask for ID. Go ahead and do that, but don't make those sort of comments ...

    Yeah that is total uncalled for! I'm glad she was talked to. My nephew is African American and is adopted ( my family is all white) one day care he was in a worker kept calling him brown baby and telling the older kids to do it to! She would also make comments about my sister being a different color than him all the time. Totally wrong!

    I didn't really have a chance to since she was pulled aside. I will say that I am white and my husband is an islander. My daughter is white in color but she has the islander features. This was my first time hearing comments on her appearance, but I am guessing it wont be my last.

    How old is she? 

    LO is half Vietnamese/half white but no one has said anything about her being mixed or asking what she is.  She has my skin color (I'm white), but I have dark hair as well and LO's eyes are fairly large/round so I don't think most people realize she's mixed.  Or maybe people just keep their mouth shut?  :-/

    I grew up being asked if I had the sme father as my sisters. Everywhere we went .... Daycare, mall, restaurants ect..... As far back as I can remember. People are just rude.

    Yeah, I think that is pretty offensive and just weird.  People do not think before they open their mouths.

    My husband and I are both pale with blue eyes and dark blonde hair.  DS obviously has blue eyes but he also has super platinum blonde, almost white, hair.

    People keep making comments about us having an "Arian baby."  One of DH's friends in particular says this every. time. we see him.  It's getting super old and honestly kind of offensive.  My baby is not a Nazi.

    Yeah this is also incredibly offensive!!! People really need to think before they say anything especially about race and ethnicity of people and their babies!

    haha thanks! When I hear "how old is she" I just assume someone means the baby these days.

     

    She's an older woman from Saudi Arabia. And no I am not assuming based on the color of her skin as she did my baby, but bc I was told that.

    Ok there is a difference between not having a filter and just being an ignorant human being with no common sense. Not having a filter would be @HisChamaoleGirl or @JocylyB0911 telling these individuals where to shove it! Instead I am sure they just brushed it off because they are polite and not complete idiots. I will never understand why people think it is ok to say things without thinking first.
