Traveling with twins...

We'll be traveling over the weekend with our twins for the first time via plane. I wanted to know if there are any other things I should carry while traveling. Of course I'll be carrying their diapers, wet wipes, formula, bottles, extra set of clothes, wash cloths, burp cloths etc - basic necessaty stuffs. I'm a little overwhelmed as to how the travel would be. LO's would be 5 months when we'll travel. Please advice.

Thanks!

I haven't posted on this board in a while and I changed my SN (previously was wmorgan003) but I recently flew with my then-6 month old twins from Chicago to London.

Bring lots of teething remedies! A cooler bag with ziplock bags of ice, store teething rings and frozen washcloths in the bag as well as bottles. Make sure you have some Tylenol or teething remedies in your carryon.

Pack a lot of those paci wipes or Honest wipes to clean the dropped teethers/toys and to clean the tray tables and armrests before your babies try to chew on them.

Pack lots of toys, buy some new toys for the flight.

Spare earplugs for other passengers if you're worried about annoying others around you.

Nurse or bottle feed on the way up and down.

    Good luck!

Eta - if your babies like to be worn, bring the carriers so you or your SO can wear them up and down the aisles to comfort them.

Edited again - I also brought some of those mesh feeders which I put ice in for them to suck on/teethe. As you can see, my girls were teething pretty heavily on our trip, lol.

  • Oh and I learned the hard way with #1 to wait until you are actually starting to lift in the air before feeding, otherwise they'll be so hungry they plow through a bottle before you are done taxiing. And bring a change of clothes for you and your spouse, in case you are the recipient of an explosion. Diapers somehow become even bigger and messier when you are almost completely unable to deal with the situation!

Other than that, 5 months is a pretty easy time to fly with babies. ;)

  • If you're bringing and gate checking car seats, get the little bags with the rollers. Trust me. Check at your local consignment shop. They should have some hanging around, and for far less than brand new!.. but still just dish out the few bucks at the airport for the push cart. Definitely gate check the stroller! It's a lifesaver when you're running through the airport. DD was significantly older when we flew with her and the twins are still on the way, so I'm not sure what else to do for the infants. Security WILL let you bring a limited quantity of unopened liquid formula/baby food/etc past and on to the flight. DD was intrigued by the window (open and shut...) and also the seat back pamphlets. If that happens to you too, take the gift!
  • Bring some of those scented baggies that you can put poopy diapers in so the passengers close to you don't have to smell it for the remainder of the flight.
  • I plan on traveling with our twins quite a bit when they get here and I came across this blog post the other day. They seem to be the experts... lots of good info.
