Hey! Remember me?? I'm now the worst Bumpie EVER!! Here's my birth story in quick, non fluffy sentence fragment form (stupid iPad won't format into bullets for me) because it's now been almost 8 weeks and well...I only have so much time to type with a newborn on my hands as you all can relate!
Sophia Noelle...born 11/17/13 at 12:50am. 7lbs 11oz 20in. Original due date 11/29/13
Here's how it went down starting on 11/16:
Wake up. Notice a little more discharge than usual. Chalk it up to more lochia which is supposed to increase at the end of pregnancy anyway.
Get showered and dressed. Get in DH's car to go shop for a dining room table and run some errands. Note: all of my hospital stuff is in MY car...which stayed home.
Buy table.
Go to Home Goods.
Go to Panera for lunch (had I known this would be my last pregnancy meal...i would have gotten something more exciting than a tomato soup and grilled cheese. I DID have a red velvet cookie though...ugh...YUM). DH is having stomach pains for the last week and they were getting worse during lunch. Decided to go to urgent care after lunch to take care of it.
Every urgent care we went to was closed or didn't take his insurance. We drove around so much we ended up at my hospital.
Walk into ER. Receptionist makes a joke about me saying "oh are you ready to go??" I say "no no we are here for my husband. Where is your bathroom though?"
Go to bathroom. Pee.
Stand up.
I keep peeing. No. No that's not pee.
Laughs in ER bathroom at the irony. My water broke (only happens to 10% of women as first labor sign), 2 weeks early, and we JUST SO HAPPENED to be in our hospital. It is 1:15 in the afternoon.
Walks back to triage. Noel looks at me and asks what's wrong. "I think my water broke." His triage nurse puts down what he's doing to DH calls of as wheelchair for me and gets me situated before proceeding with him. DH stays in the ER...I go up to LnD...still laughing and mildly in shock.
For the record, his stomach was fine...it was a muscular pull from our move that eventually went away.
Get upstairs to LnD. Contractions hadn't started yet. Get my IV. Contractions hadn't ramped up by 4:30. Received Cervadil.
Whooooa nelly contractions ramp up fast and furious. I had planned to go unmedicated...
Fuck. That. Noise.
Received narcotics at 4cm around 7pm to take the edge off. Didn't help.
Caved and received epidural. Didn't feel it at all and didn't understand what all the fuss was about them.
Ended up going through transition while receiving the epidural. THAT I felt. I knew that's what it was because they checked me after the epi and I was at 10cm. It was now 9:30 or so.
They asked if I wanted to labor down and take a nap. Ummmmm.....yup. DH and I napped until midnight. I didn't want to have her before midnight so I could ensure I got 2 full nights in the hospital (if she was born before midnight that whole day of labor would have counted as one of my days).
After midnight, they got everything ready for the big push. After 8 contractions and 18 minutes of pushing.......our screaming bundle of joy came into the world with 9 and 10 APGAR scores. Here are two photos of her...one from early on and one that I actually took today while she was snuggling up for a nap.
I absolutely love our chubby cheeked princess. We've had a lot of ups and downs these past 7-8 weeks (breast feeding not working out, reflux, colic, etc) but I love her more and more each day!
Thank you all for being so sweet and supportive and reading our story. QUITE dramatic if I may say so, right? Now back to your regularly scheduled lurking...

Let's also not forget the Friends episode where Phoebe goes into labor with the triplets and Joey ends up in the ER with kidney stones! That's what I was thinking of.
