35 wks scan done! Cyst gone! Femur length a week behind!!

Hello all!!
Just want to share choroid plexus cyst is gone! Yay!! :)
Baby is 2.3999 kg which is on the lighter side, but what concerns me most is baby's femur length is behind by about 10 days :(
I don't know if that's sth to worry about or not! I am going to see my midwife Tmr and discuss with her then! Ok ladies anyone with same results pls let me know! Is it sth to worry about?

Re: 35 wks scan done! Cyst gone! Femur length a week behind!!

  • Oh btw his head is ahead by 3 weeks and a few days!! :/

  • That's great that the cyst is gone!  My baby's femurs are measuring behind too.  Even though I was freaking out about it, the doctors didn't seem that concerned and said he might just have short legs.
  • Did they give you a percentile for the femur length or the baby's weight? 10 days behind doesn't sound like a big deal to me, it just sounds like a short baby. Some people are tall, some are short- babies are the same. No one is going to be perfectly measuring on time all the time, if we did all newborns would be the same size!
What would concern me is the head measuring so far ahead and baby being small otherwise, but I'm dealing with possible growth issues so I know my view is skewed.

  • Christmas eve LO was measuring the same way.. short femur.. huge head. Went back a week later and he was measuring on target with the femur but his head then measured 37 weeks where it had measured 38 weeks befor so either they got a bad angle or the rest of him is catching up.. I personally vote for both.

  • Its such a relief when they tell you the cysts have cleared up! Congrats on that!

Def talk to your midwife, but remember most growth scans are averages for the gestational period. Each child is different, so its not usually a big deal. However, she is going to be able to give you a better picture than we would.

This.  My baby's legs are measuring a bit behind as well.  Her father and I are both only 5'2 and 5'3.  I don't expect my baby girl to be very tall lol :)
  • That's great news! I would wait to hear from your doctor before I started to worry!

  • Today at my growth scan I was told that my baby overall was in the 47th percentile but that her head was in the 91st!  This freaked me (and my vagina) out, but the dr didn't seem at all concerned. I just assume there can be a lot of variation with these things, so long as the dr doesn't seem to think it's a problem.

Definitely great news about the other stuff though!

  • Saw my midwife today, turns out it was a cause if concern. She was more worried about baby's abdomine being 2-3 weeks behind! :( she said that indicates baby not getting enough nutrition :'(( I have a doctors appointment Tmr and they will probably do another scan and closely monitor me. Midwife also added I might be induced depending on the repeat scan. Because if the baby is better off outside then it's best to get the baby out.
I asked if it was a soft marker for DS, she said she wasn't that concerned about it because babies with any abnormalities would have a small head and a small body whereas mine is big head and small body.
Anyways ladies, this hasn't been an easy pregnancy!
Btw, I started my maternity from today, I was supposed to start it next week but midwife thinks I need enough rest. She did kind of suggest me to start my leave before Christmas but I didn't think it was necessary then because I had no idea about baby's abdomin being 2-3 weeks behind! But I can't help but feel guilty. I should have listened to her! Anyways, better late the never! Please pray for my baby!!
Just bought extra eggs, milk, cheese, yogurt, chicken...! Hoping my baby with fatten up soon!
  • I commented before but didn't mention there that in addition to the femurs, my baby's abdomen is also behind. They'll probably just monitor you a lot. I get growth scans every 3 weeks. They say if he doesht grow, they might take him out but if he does, he might just be small. Do you have a strenuous job? Mine never said anything about taking an early leave, though I basically sit at a computer all day.

Hello, how many weeks r u? I am 35 weeks 5 days! According to scan I am 36 wks 2 days. I will know Tmr what scan I am going to have and when.
My job is also basically sitting infront of the computer but it is quite stressful at times, hence the early leave!
Btw, when did u start your growth scans n had it improved? And when r there going to decide if the baby needs to be out early? Were they concerned regarding the baby's growth?

I'm 35 weeks, 1 day.  I started growth scans at around 22 or 24 weeks but the smaller measurements were detected at 29 weeks.  They just tell me percentiles, not how many weeks he's measuring.  The percentiles have gone down but not enough to be considered growth restricted.  They are concerned about it and I go for monitoring twice a week, but they won't take him out unless he hasn't grown at all between growth scans, which happen every 3 weeks.

I know it's really scary, but your doctor is aware of it and hopefully the extra monitoring will help you feel more at ease.  And at 36 weeks, if your LO has to come out, the chances of everything being all good are very high.

Thank you. I will update what happens Tmr! Nervous but atleast I will be monitored now!
  • Prayers for both LOs!!
  • So sorry it was what I was thinking :( my baby had an issue with the blood flow through his cord, which we needed to do a c/s for, but growth restriction typically goes hand in hand with the issue I had.
He was born at 32 weeks and measured 11% overall, and the nicu nurses tell me he's doing very well for a 32-weeker. I have confidence that these babies may be little but they are real fighters- little babies act their gestational age, not their size!

    Thanks Ziggy!
I saw my doctor today and she has arranged a Doppler on 20th! And she also said I would be induced on week 38 which is 2 weeks from now! Well, anything that's best for the baby!
Btw, speedy recovery to you and may your baby grow stronger than your expectations!! :)
