Thrush

Mobile bumping so I wasn't able to search back too far, but if this has been discussed recently sorry!

Yesterday, at urgent care, my baby was diagnosed with moderate thrush. She seems miserable, always clawing (opposed to rooting) at her mouth and screaming. The doctor told me that infants don't usually notice thrush and it's generally not painful. I have also read that thrush could be very painful, especially in infants, making me wonder. He believes her discomfort could be her six week growth spurt. Just wondering if any moms have noticed their little ones bothered by thrush, or if I'm just being a super paranoid FTM. Also how long after starting the medicine did you start to notice an improvement?

Thank you!

Re: Thrush

  • DS has been on medicine for his thrush for a month.  At first it was Nystatin and we did that for 2 weeks with no real change.  If anything it got worse.  Now we are on Diflucan (well, the generic of it) and it's been 5 days and not really seeing any difference.   He doesn't seem bothered by it, but his tongue always looks coated.

Might not have been thrush. This happened to our LO, and turned out to just be formula on her tongue. If it scrapes off, it's not thrush. And thrush normally involves the inner cheeks and upper palate as well. Just a thought :)
