Can't vent this anywhere else...

My lovely husband decided to go skiing with a buddy on Sunday. My lovely husband then shattered his knee (officially a tibial plateau fracture), and spent the night in the ER, had surgery on Monday, and has now spent two nights in hospital, leaving me to deal alone with our two-year-old...not to mention that we're at 30 weeks preggo.

So he's facing a minimum 12-week recovery - except we only have ten left until baby arrives. Oh, and for the first month, no weight-bearing on that leg whatsoever, and he sucks at crutches. No showers either - so I get to be his nurse on top of my full-time job, plus my toddler. And then MAYBE in a month he can graduate to a cane. So much for being useful in the delivery room!

Icing on this shit cake? My inlaws are coming to stay with us...indefinitely. And I don't speak Italian, they don't speak English (we stumble along in our mutually broken French to communicate, lol).

Not really a t&p kind of person, just needed to vent, thanks.

  • Vent away that's a lot.

  • I'm sure it sucks for YH, but I too would be pissed if MH was doing dangerous stuff so close to the baby being born and was severely injured.  It's hard enough taking care of a newborn, let alone a toddler and husband!  Any chance you can get some in home help, beyond your in laws?

  • Ooof! A little icing on this cake is Italian women love to cook :) I use a google translator at work when I'm really desperate and it still leaves some gaps, but might be worth a try. T&p for all of you. So sorry!

  • As someone who has in-laws from another country (and I don't speak their language much at all and vice versa), I find that the language barrier can actually be a good thing when I am feeling anti-social or not wanting to deal with drama. :)

I'm sorry your DH got hurt and you are having this extra stress.  :(

  • Oh that sucks!
Have your in laws stayed before? Are they helpful? I would be letting them help as much as possible- cooking, cleaning, looking after your daughter.
I hope they are those kind of ppl.
    Good luck and vent away.
  • Your story wins the bitchfest of the day, hands down.  Tell your husband to suck it up!

  • This is very vent-worthy. You are a saint for dealing with this obviously not on purpose, but still totally lame shitstorm. He's a lucky man. I hope for everyone's sake he heals quickly!

  • OMG - this is awful, I hope he has a chance at a quicker recovery than that - I would lose my mind!!

DH just brought up going on a ski trip last night.  He has never skiied.  I laughed my ass off.

  • Ugh--that is horrible. I'm 32wks and if I didn't have DH to help with my crazy toddler I'd have a complete melt down. My brother had to have major knee surgery right before his 3rd was born. They decided it was better before than after but my poor SIL had to deal with A LOT with caring for him and two pre-schoolers. I'm still surprised their marriage survived it. Hang in there. I hope that your ILs end up being a great help to you and it's not to awful having to share space for a while.
