Sore ribs

My LO had her foot/feet lodged into my ribs most of the day yesterday and by last night my ribs feel bruised. It hurts to cough, sneeze, move and even sleep. Has this ever happened to anyone else? Should I mention it to the doctor when I go tomorrow?

Re: Sore ribs

  • It happens to me more frequently these days as my LO is pretty long and I'm guessing she's running out of room in there. :P It's normal, but if you're concerned, talk to your doctor about it and maybe he/she can suggest ways to coax her to move.

  • Definitely! For some reason, his whole body is on my right side, and his knees or whatever are digging into my ribs whenever I sit down... so painful!

  • I am dying from the same issue.  He is quite the bruiser.  Unfortunately, there is nothing that can be done, short of delivery.  Your ribs may also be sore because as you move through third trimester they stretch and are compressed more.  One of those little pregnancy details that no one tells you about!
  • Thanks ladies!!
  • I mentioned it to the doctor today and she said that I did something else to it. I have been sick with a horrible cough so she thinks I either bruised a muscle, popped a rib out or did something to the cartlige between my ribs. She told me to take Tylenol and to put icy hot (not on my tummy though) and if that didn't help then I need to call back in a week.
  • My ribs having been feeling bruised for about a week now and I'm 34 weeks. I keeping thinking the baby's foot is stuck or something, but it also moves around a lot right now. I hate sitting up right because that's when it hurts the most!! And it also feels like my upper abdomin is stretching!

This part of pregnancy is not fun!
  • I was thinking about posting exactly the same thing the other day. He was kicking my ribs all day to the point where I was in so much pain when I had to cough or sneeze.. Even standing up was pretty daunting. It's better now, as he has shifted!

  • Mine got worse on Thursday evening. I was cleaning the supper dishes when it happened. I coughed, heard a pop and instant pain throughout my entire body. It took my breath away. Scared DH enough he wanted to call the squad. I've been sleeping in the recliner because laying down hurts to much. I have only been taking 2 Tylenol a day and putting icy hot on twice a day. I hated to call into work on Friday but I could hardly walk and was in tears. I am going back to work tomorrow (which I'm dreading) so I am hoping that I am at least 50% ok to go.
  • This has been my life since I was 30 weeks pregnant. (Now 33 wks) I try and massage her down gently where I want her to be but it's been her comfort zone since I can remember so she always finds her way back. It's even worse when she gets the hiccups because she gets "frustrated" and starts kicking when she's over it. lol  If you find some sort of relief, let me know!!!
