Book Suggestions

I'm looking for a new parenting book to read.  Any suggestions??  I'm pretty open to anything.

Re: Book Suggestions

  • I really liked Nurture Shock and Bringing up Bebe.

    Interested to what others say.

  • When you say parenting do you mean how to parent? Or more of something like "what to expect: the toddler years".

If you want something with good insight to parenting I would suggest my most recent textbook, Parenting in Contemporary Society by Pauline Turner and Kelly Welch.  It talks about the different parenting styles and how they impact the child's development. It also talks about co-parenting, working and parenting, and communication strategies.

I read Bringing Up Bebe and liked it.  I'll check out Nurture Shock.

I'm not looking for anything specific.  I have "manual" type books and others that are more of a good read.  I'm just looking for something new.

Is Parenting in Contemporary Society a textbook you had for a class or is it a book you choose to read on your own time?

It was for a class for my minor in Child Development. The class was on understanding behaviors and family dynamics. It has some really good sections on communication that DH and I read over together.  It is one of the few books I put into my keep and re-read pile because I found it to be really useful.
