I was wondering how long a typical IVF cycle is from BCP to ER. I have my consult next week, and I have a really hectic spring/summer and will be traveling a bit. I want to make sure I am able to make all of the monitoring appointments. How long are you usually on BCP for? I'm guessing monitoring starts a few days into stims? Thanks for your help!

At my clinic you have to be on BCP for at least a week ( I was 4-6 weeks for IVF #1 and #2, but was only on it for 3 weeks for this IVF Cycle). They do batch cycling, so they use BCP not only for suppression, but to sync up everyone's cycle. My protocol uses both lupron and ganirelix for ovulation suppression before and during stims. So here is how my schedule looks...

1+ weeks of BCPs

5 days of overlapping BCPs and lupron

3 days of lupron only

Baseline u/s and E2 & start ganirelix for ovulation supression

3 days of ganirelix only

7 days of stims and ganirelix

Start Monitoring Appointments (My clinic starts monitoring much later than most of the women I see on here)

Monitoring/stimming as needed until ready for trigger and ER

ET 5 days after ER

If this cycle progresses like my last two cycles, it will take 7 weeks from starting BCP to ET.

Mine took about 4 weeks till ER, and about 4.5-5 weeks thru et. Good luck!

I was on BCP for 4 weeks but it was partially due to timing of my cycle. The lab at my RE's office closes for two weeks and my cycle started to late to get in before the closure so I was on BCP for longer than normal.

I'm currently on day 8 of stims and my ER will be either over the weekend or early next week. I had a baseline monitoring 3 days after I stopped BCPs and I've go for monitoring every other day while stimming.

Everyone is different. My RE didn't want to supress me too much so I was only on BCPs for 7 days. Then once my AF came (3 days later) i went in and got my blood work, u/s and the green light to start stimms. I stimmed for 9 days and coasted for 1 day off meds before I triggered on day 11. Then I had my ER 2 days later. So pretty much 3 weeks for me.

Thanks for the quick replies! So, it sounds like it can be anywhere from 3 weeks to almost 2 months. I guess I'll need to wait for my appointment to get all of the specifics. I really want to get things moving, but it sounds like I may need to be patient.

My bcp.was for ten days then off for two days then baseline. I stimmed for like ten days so ER was 12 after baseline. You really need to think out your plans because I was pushed from fresh to frozen transfer so that was an additional months of appointments. The I got pg and had weekly appointments after the three betas in one week up until finding out I had mc. So basically I've been at my REs once a week at least for almost four months it seems. I sure there was a week or two that I didn't but you get the point.

I was BCP for 28 days, stims for 10, trigger day 11, ER day 12. Good luck :-)

My schedule looked like this:

BCP 21 days

7 days of "period"

Stims on day 28

11 days of Stims

ER Day 13

So that would be a total of 41 days.

Monitoring for me was Day 3 of Stims, Day 4, Day 5, Day 7, Day 8, Day 9, Day 10, Day 11, and ER on Day 13

My clinic puts you on BC to help with whatever timing you want - for instance, for IVF, I was on BC for six weeks. For my FET, I was on it for ten days. My clinic requires monitoring every other day and stemming is typically 8-12 days, with ER 36 hours after that and ET 5 days later.

Basically I need to avoid any appointments the weekend of March 8th, the other stuff I can likely adjust. Maybe I'll just see if my RE will help me work around that. Thanks!
