Re: 5 cool things about BF'ing

  • So apparently I need to suck it up and attempt nighttime feedings again. Ugh. Trevor feeds for sooo long on then breast, so I've been formula feeding at night. How long does everyone elses LOs feed at the breast? T feeds for 20-30 minutes each side, and is still hungry half the time when he's done!

  • This is why I love side lying nursing at night, you can both pass out as soon as you're done (or even before!) :)

I recently started doing this and it's fantastic!!

My LO usually eats for about 10 minutes during night time feedings. Sometimes more it depends on how long she slept for.

  • I have switched to formula feeding at night but I pump while daddy feeds. Our doctor was worried about LO lack of weight gain. But during the day it's all boobies all the time! So far it seems to be working really well and is giving daddy a chance to bond and for mommy to sleep.

Part of the reason for looooonnnnnggggg or frequent nightime feeds is that newborns have days and nights mixed up.  In utero they were rocked to sleep during the day and at night they were kicking you in the bladder all night.  So babies naturally come out being more well behaved and eating and then sleeping nicely between feedings during the day and at night are like all over the place, super demanding, eating often and long cause that's their more awake time to take in more calories.  you work to switch those things around, by keeping nights dark, swaddled, and quiet and days bright, noisy and unswadded and wake to feed during the day every 2-3 hours.  but you also take a nap during the day and try to hang in there at night cause they will get things switched around eventually.
No, I mean he feeds 20-30 minutes each side, period!  That's during the day... Goodness knows how long he'll try to feed at night! But I'm going to try!

So, is my baby the only one that thinks she's competing for a triathlon whilst nursing? I mean, I get kicked, punched, scratched and she breathes heavy and groans while nursing.

Mine sometimes grabs my nipple when she stops nursing, and she won't let it go...

Same here she is soo impatient at night. The milk doesnt let down fast enough and she flips out.
  • Dude... If this is true about long term help with mood disorders, I'm nursing ALL NIGHT! My babies need all the help they can get with that. Both DH and I have issues, so they're screwed.

  • So our LO was losing weight so ped. Suggested supplementing with formula . The LC said still to pump, long story short tonight I'm only feeding breast milk with bottle. Nursing is stressful at the moment and he's not taking to it well. We will see if this works!
