BF twins...do you assign a side?

Hi all! Posted recently about tandem bf'ing vs individually, and it got me wondering about bf twins in general...do you always give the same twin the same side breast? Or do you just randomly give whichever baby whichever side feels fullest?

Re: BF twins...do you assign a side?

  • I try to switch each feeding. Meaning e got right last time so now he is on left. I've heard you should switch so your breasts stay even (in case one is better at draining the breast or just a bigger eater) and so they don't get an uneven head (from always feeding on the same side).

  • I also try to switch every feeding for the same reasons already mentioned.

  • Same here. We switch each feeding. Or at least as well as my memory allows ;)

  • Honestly I tandem feed every time and never pay attention to who is on what side. So far 8 weeks in I'm even in production and everyone's always full and I keep my sanity instead of trying to remember who fed on what side.

  • I guess I'm a super dork. I switch each time but can't keep up with it, so I use Baby Connect app on my phone.
  • I assigned a side around 6 weeks because I had too much foremilk and not enough hindmilk and have only switched 2 or 3 times since then.  It is easier to keep track of and it ensures that each baby is getting enough foremilk and hindmilk.

  • My plan was to switch every day so I wouldn't have to remember each time. But really I did both. I am a little lopsided now, but I think that's pretty normal, also because i had surgery under my right arm which affected my supply a little.

    Just...go with the flow, haha.
  • I try to switch because righty is a bigger producer than lefty and whoever gets lefty is hungry sooner.
