I am currently taking 12.5 mg of Trazodone and 5 mg of Lexapro while pregnant (I'm 17 weeks). Unfortunately, I suffer from insomnia, depression and anxiety and my doctor recommended I continue taking the meds throughout the pregnancy to avoid stress to myself and the baby. These meds are Category "C" during pregnancy.
Has anyone taken Trazodone and/or Lexapro while pregnant? I'm very interested to hear about your experiences and how your baby is developing after birth.
Re: Anyone take Trazodone, Lexapro or other Category "C" drugs while pregnant?
I did extensive research prior to conceiving. I stopped my Effexor and Concerta. I am all over the map with ooh shiny moments, and it's clear the Effexor help my mood swings - I feel like permanent PMS, unfortunately.
Other than hormones, I think the depression is in check, so is anxiety, my ADHD....OMG, it's bad, lol!

I've got herniated disks and nerve damage from a car accident (which is what *most* of the meds were for) so the pain is already unbearable since im not on the meds and I know its only going to get worse. It'll all be worth it in the end though.
I'm also taking a couple of lortabs here and there for migraines and that hasn't been a problem either.
My sister took Zoloft throughout her last pregnancy. Her son is five now. He's smart and healthy and never had any problems.
Remember that cat c drugs haven't been "proven" to cause problems in babies. Any associated effects could be correlative, meaning some other factor associated with the drug actually caused the effect. For example maybe people who are depressed also tend to have slow metabolisms (just making up an example) and its the slow metabolism that causes issues, not the antidepressant.
I've consulted with my ADHD specialist and my family doc about this - and the general advise I've gotten is to remain on my Concerta and lower my dose of Celexa through pregnancy, but NOT to take the Lorazepam (Ativan) - I also have for anxiety. The ADHD specialist reasoned that if I'm already taking away one of my coping mechanisms taking away the Concerta would likely increase my stress level to the point where the increased stress would take its own tolls on the pregnancy.
Lorazepam is a clear category D - so everyone immediately advised NO on that. Concerta and Celexa are both Category C. Celexa is fairly well researched in animals, and I'm reasonably comfortable with the low-risk a minimal dose presents, and Concerta hasn't shown a ton of research yet - though my specialist says that the 36mg dose I'm on can also be considered minimal...
