Ds is seven weeks old. He isn't smiling. Dd smiled at six weeks. I'm worried. I realize I may be over reacting. he has started staring more at faces this week. And I try to smile at him a lot. Anyone else?
DD2 just started smiling more regularly over the past week (8w today) and I got a huge smile when she saw me yesterday after her nap. Don't worry, your LO will and probably very soon!
DS is 5 weeks today. I'm convinced he socially smiles now. At first I wasn't so sure, but it only happens when we're talking to/smiling at him and when he's in a good mood. He'll "talk" to us as well. Super cute!
OP - as with all developmental milestones, there's a wide range of normal. Some do things earlier than others. Don't worry! LO will get there!
Siler smiles all the time. He will smile at me and DH non stop when we are talking to him. His smile is so much bigger than the smile he does when he's dreaming. He started really smiling us at 3-3 1/2 weeks old. DD was smiling like crazy at anything literally 3 days old. DS1 didn't smile till over a month old. Nothing to be worried about. Every child is different.
He's been doing this since 3-4 weeks. I choose to believe its a smile not wind he does it when you jiggle a toy or surprise him. Sometimes if you leave the room and come back. And other times for no reason which is probably wind
Was going to post the same thing! DD is 6 weeks today and no social smiles yet even though I try to get her to all day and I've been freaking out about it. :-( but everything I have read says there's no reason to be concerned unless they haven't until 3 months...
LO is 6 weeks tomorrow and she has smiled at me 4 times today! She was wide awake and I was talking to her, so I'm convinced they aren't gassy smiles. I got a picture of one!
"Smiles" on newborns (up until approx 8-12 weeks) are neurological reactions not gas or intentional. Premies will "smile" more often but it's just their brains making those neurological connections. Social smiling or in reaction to stimulus is not common until closer to 2 months.
@Cashingn2 You'll sort of just know. Super helpful, right? You can convince yourself that they are doing it earlier and then when it's the first real time, in response to seeing you or hearing your voice, you'll realize the others were just reflexes.
