Baby Names

Be honest; I can handle it.

So we are thrilled to be having a little girl - literally been dreaming up names since before I had my son.  Now that it is actually happening, I feel like I am clamming up and can't choose a name (I thought a girl name would be so much easier than a boy - not true for me!)  Anyways, the names we have been throwing around for years are.... Scarlett (Letti), Violet, Gabrielle (Elle), etc.  My son is Everett. I am now stuck on the name Emery for my daughter. I like the idea of "E" names for my sibset but am afraid Emery is a made up name (it IS on the soc sec website and ranked for a girl).

Thoughts on Emery and/or any other different sounding "E" names? I am trying to avoid another Ev...like Evelyn.

Thanks!

  • I love Emery. It's on our list with that spelling. Even if it's "made up" I went to high school with one ten years ago so it's at least been a name for 25 years! And I like it with Everett

  • Emery is a really name... For a boy.
  • I teach with a girl who just named her little girl Emory. I like it, although with that spelling I think "emory board" each time I look at it.
  • My friend just named her daughter Emory... they call her Emmy

  • I hate Emery/Emory for a girl. Heck, I am not the biggest fan of it on a boy either. Your other names are much better choices.
  • Emerson or Emrielle?

I like Violet and Scarlett a lot.

  • Emory/Emery is always going to be a boys name for me. No matter how you spell it. I know grown men with that name. Just because SSA says it's used on girls doesn't make it ok. Nevaeh is on there too. I'm an Emily and honestly it's how the Chinese restaurant owner said my name (used to have the best place when we lived in NYC and ate there for years and got to know the family). So I just can't get behind it. Emma, Emmaline, Elodie, Eleanor, Eileen are all much more feminine. But I like your Scarlotte, Violet and Gabrielle choices so much. I'm not a big fan of deliberately using the same letter for a sibset. Another suggestions is Genevieve (the v's go with Everett) or Elizabeth (NN Eliza or Elle/Ella)
  • Thanks all so far - exactly what I needed to see/hear. Scarlett is creeping back up front, especially because then I would have Scarlett and Rhett (possible MN for my son Everett). Too corny?

  • Ok I'm glad you've seen the light on Emery.

I love matching sibset initials.  How about Eleanor? Emily? Ellen? Erin?

  • Hate Emery,,,love Gabrielle
  • Not a fan of Emery. I vote for Scarlett

  • Emery is a male name. It is a naming pet peeve if mine when people have their kids start with the same letter (it's just so cheesy). I do like Scarlett, but then it ends in the same "ett" sound as your son (same goes for Violet, but I don't like that name). So I guess my vote is Gabrielle by default.
  • Emrielle is my nieces name...not my style at all, but some people really like it. Her nn is Emrie.
  • I like previous suggestions of Ellery, Elodie and Estelle, and there were a lot other good ones too. What about just Emme? I really like Violet from your original list.

  • As horrible is it is.... I can still hear my very Chinese teacher calling on a student named Emily when I hear Emery.

Emma is my fave E name.
  • Scarlett by like a gazillion trillion miles.

I like Violet from your list.

  • I really love the name Everly for a girl but it might be too much with Everette. We are going with Emily for a girl, Emma for short.

  • Only Emery I have ever known was a 65 year old Hungarian guy. There is no girl in that name for me, it's all boy.

  • I love Violet.

  • Sorry, I don't like Emery. I always think emery board. I know someone who named their daughter Emerson, after Ralph Waldo Emerson. Other "E" names I like: Elissa, Ella, Emmeline, Esther, Evangeline, Elle, Esmeralda, Esme, Estella, Eloise, Elise, Elena
  • Please leave emery for the boys. So many nice boy names are being taken over for girls (emery, Riley, Emerson etc). Pretty E names:
    Emmeline
    Elise
    Elena (uh-lay-nuh)
    Elina (uh-lee-nuh)
    Eliza
    Eden
    Eloise

  • I like scarlet, the only think is I can't stand the NMs and it does get shortant to scar or scarly! There is a scarlet at my sons school. Just thought I'd mention,
  • I'm not an Emery fan. I don't think it looks feminine (well-it's not), I don't think it sounds nice.

I really am crushing on Violet. I like Scarlett, but not the Scarlett and Rhett sibset combo.

  • I lOVE the NN Letti. I have a cousin named Letta Jo (not loving the name itself). She goes by Letta and Letti. I think it is so cute. I feel like the E names are really over done these days. I feel like every other baby girl has the NN Ella, Emma, Eva, Evie, Ellie, or something similar.
