So my sister just went into labor and she is only about 38 weeks. They told her that her baby was big at her last appointment and they may have gotten her due date wrong. They've been telling her she might be early the last few weeks. She is under 18 so I am a little worried about her the baby. I live about 1800 miles away and we just got the call so I am kinda stressing out. I love her a lot and I already love this baby a ton. I am just kinda worried that everything will be okay. I am trying to be happy and excited but 2 weeks early sounds scary. I know a lot of babies are born MUCH earlier and they are fine but still...
My LO was born at 35 weeks and weighed 6 lbs and 3 oz he was perfectly healthy except a little jaundice. He is now a month old, hitting his millstones and is super healthy! He is up to 7lbs and 14oz and is growing like a weed!
38 weeks is considered term and pretty safe for baby to be born at this point. Most babies at this age do as well as a full term baby and the risks of there being complications due to baby's age are pretty small. There is always risk but that is true for every pregnancy and delivery, I'm sure she is in good hands. Congrats!
Full term pregnancy is actually 39 weeks. That said, many babies are born healthy at 38 or earlier. An early birth doesn't automatically mean there will complications for her or her baby. FWIW my boys were born at 37 weeks, no issues aside from jaundice and a small delay in my milk coming in. I hope she has a good L&D!

Agree with everyone. Mine was 37 and one day- zero issues. 9/9 Apgar, passed all tests and breadtfeeds like a champ. Mine was 5 lbs 13 oz too so she should be fine!Congrats!!!
My 3rd baby who I just delivered via csection on 12/16 was at 37 wks 1 day. He was perfectly healthy. 6lbs 11 oz. at birth. Breastfeeds like a champ and is over 8 lbs already. 38 weeks is perfectly fine.
i opted for a c-section at my 38th week after a failed induction and she came out a healthy strong 8.15lbs and 21inches! and she is super smart already.
Baby should be perfectly fine at 2 weeks. My water broke at 38 weeks and I had DS via c-section (repeat/planned) and he's doing great. He did have some breathing issues at first but that was more due to the c-section than him being early and he was fine within 24 hours. He was born at 7lbs 10oz.
Re: Born at 38 Weeks?
38 weeks is perfectly fine.
37 weeks is considered full term.
I had my DS at 38 weeks and he was/is just fine.
First DS was born at 35 weeks and was super healthy. Second DS was born at 38 weeks, smaller than ODS but super healthy.
No worries and congrats!
