Thank you

Re: Thank you

  • I would ask the director about the confusion of the letters and bring up your concern with safety of your children at the DC. If you have an unsettled feeling from the conversation, then begin to look into other child care facilities.

  • I would pull my kids out of the daycare.

  • I would definitely talk to the director about the discrepancy.  I'm more concerned about how the daycare is run than any actions by the teacher.  It seems as though the director is maybe a little too controlling.  I might start looking at other daycare locations but not pull my kids unless something major happened.

I agree. Sounds like the director is the problem not the former teacher. I wouldn't want to make my kids adjust to a new place unnecessarily.

No matter the real story behind the teacher leaving , the way it's been handled is totally unprofessional. And makes it sound like there is something they are trying to cover up.
side note, it's unlikely the teacher is facing criminal charges. My guess is the lawyers are for some civil suit

    Ditto.

  • would definitely pull my kids. it stinks to adjust to a new provider, but I would not be comfortable leaving my children in the hands of such unprofessional people. Its a shame because it sounds like the director is the issue, but regardless there is no sign thats changing any time soon.
  • Is it distributing the letter to every family at the center with the teacher's 1st and last name and explaining her struggle to get the unemployment benefits and the discrepancy in whether she was fired or quit that you find unprofessional?  I'm just curious because that is what's bothering me and I'm not sure if it should be or not.

Yes, that would definitely disturb me.  Teachers quit or get fired in every facility.  It's the management's handling of it that makes me uncomfortable.

If they have a lawyer, they should have had the lawyer review the parent notifications before they went out.

  • Do you think I should be concerned about my kids' safety?
  • @mommymegan831 yes. Here those details might even violate the teacher's right to privacy. The professional way to handle it would be "we regret to inform you Ms X is no longer with us. Should you have any concerns regarding this please see Y". if they were concerned about her contacting people they should have been more vague. IE " It has come to our attention a former employee has been attempting to contact parents. Should you be contacted and have concerns please do not hesitate to contact us "
I agree with this completely. I am an assistant director at a youth residential facility. We would NEVER tell families an employee was fired and could be sued for that.  In addition, we can't do anything if a former employee tries to contact families.  I think they are unprofessional.  I don't know that this places your children in harm's way though.  You will have to decide if you are comfortable with their level of professionalism.  I would be very bothered by those letters and the idea that they are drawing families into workplace conflict.
  • Safety from what?  The fired teacher?  I think you are focusing on the wrong area.

I don't agree with how the director is handling the situation at all, but I don't think that puts my kids in danger.  I can always think of worst case scenario so I'm just imagining this teacher was fired, tried to get unemployment benefits and was denied because the DC claims she quit, is trying to get families to help her, so now she's been embarrassed and has no money to support herself or her family.  Is it that unreasonable to think she could go in and try to shoot the owner, or everyone at the daycare?  Or set it on fire?  You just see so many crazy things go on with people with no motive, this woman actually has one.
  • Personally, I think you're overthinking it.  Could the woman freak out and go shoot up the place, sure I guess.  But then again, a crazy parent could do it too for little reason, and it could happen at pretty much any facility with a disgruntled employee.

If this is your worry, I would discuss  with the director the security measures the facility has in place for any crazy trying to gain access  and make sure you feel comfortable with the measures.  And I would speak to the director about your concerns and ask if they feel this woman is a danger to their kids.  If they believe she may be, they can get a restraining order.  I doubt, however, that is necessary and that there is evidence that would warrant a restraining order.

  • I think it's a pretty big stretch to say the fired teacher would hurt kids.

Most likely what she's trying to do is find someone who will verify her story that she was fired, and the director is trying to bully you all into not telling the truth.  So.... the former teacher is acting rational (if a bit desperate) and the loose cannon here is the director.

If I were you, I would feel some moral imperative to back up her story, or at the very least to contact the department of labor or whatever the appropriate state agency is and tell them that it seems like something fraudulent is going on and you're being asked by the employer to withhold relevant information in an ongoing unemployment dispute.
