It's -14 outside and that's without factoring in the wind chill. I have major cabin fever to say the least. This brutal cold is just plain in humane...
This has been the winter from hell! It's barely January and we've already had two feet of snow dumped on us within a 5 day period of time and now this extreme fucking cold. Wake me up when it's April will ya?
@mamatoA2010 I'm in NWI. It's brutal outside. DH has to be at work at midnight. I'm planning to go to work tomorrow, but he said the roads were complete ice when he and a neighbor went out for gas earlier. My goal is to get out of the house by 6am, but I'm kind of scared to.
Southern WI here...very chilly! -13, feels like -37
We were out of school today and will be tomorrow. We, along with the rest of Facebook land, did the boling water experiment-throw it in the air and it freezes before it hits the ground.

I can't imagine temperatures like that. It was12 here this morning, but felt like -3. We never get this cold in our part of Texas. Though I wish we would get winter precipitation, you ladies get all my sorries. I won't gripe about our cold anymore.
We have a delay tomorrow. Honestly? I think I will get a call at 6am that they will cancel our 90 minute delay and close school.
90 minutes won't do THAT much when at 6am (which is when the buses need to start their route for the high schoolers) with a windchill of -20 and at 7:30, the windchill will be -15.
Many of our students are walkers and definitely don't always "wear" weather appropriate clothing.
Geez @starearedkid, why don't they just close now??? My district always closes last second but they actually announced it at 4:30 this afternoon. They know damn well kids can't walk to school in this!
The problem is we have sections of walkers--but our district is fairly big---12 elementary schools; so at about 8 of them there are primary busers but the other 4 are primarily walkers or an even mix.
We also never have any snow days built in--so they HATE closing because it adds a day to the end of the year. Delays they never have to make up. So they like to call a delay and then asses it in the morning and make a final decision.
My kids are driving me crazy. Southern Wisco here and -14 with a windchill of -26 right now should be -40-50 by am. No school tomorrow again. We may brave the cold tomorrow to some sort of indoor playground so the kids can burn off energy.

Yep, Michigan here and the same crappy weather... -13 right now and the wind chill between tonight and tomorrow morning is -40 or -50. I battled the snow on my way home from work last night, luckily today was my off day! DH's work remained closed as well. We do have an issue though, the street got plowed in the middle of the night and by morning, the mound blocking my driveway is straight frozen. I had DH make a few FB posts and someone owns a plow and will be by in the A.M. to move the frozen mound blocking us in since we have a few places to venture out to (although I really don't even want to go out tomorrow either!!) I think the warm up is Friday though where temps reach normal again.
We went from being the coldest place on earth there a few days ago to being +10C yesterday and down pouring rain. I had 4 leaks in my house from the huge ice storm we had on the 23rd of Dec.Now it is finally evened out to being somewhat normal winter temperatures, with sun and cloud. and a high of -6C, and school is cancelled because the roads are so bad because all the rain we got yesterday froze. You may be able to tell my frustration.
Add to that me and Wyatt (oldest) both have this awful cold that is going around here. Should make for an awesome day. Gah.
Ugh. Just saw on Facebook that DH had to fight a fire at 3:30 this morning. I can't imagine how that was in this weather. And I think someone may have died, but I can't tell because the idiot who posts the fire calls can't spell and said the county "corner" had to be called. I am sure he meant coroner.
I'm in the Midwest and it's colder than a witches tit out here! I literally froze my ass off just walking back and forth to my car at work yesterday. Plus, my office is freezing...pretty sad when you have to go to the bathroom at work just to get warm.

I think we must be in the same area. Was it the garage fire where the guy died? God bless your husband and those other fire fighters for dealing with that in this cold. It's crazy.
I so thought you were a Long Islander because of your screename. I live ten minutes from the Bluepoint Brewery, if you ever get a chance go visit. It is a blast and there are 6 other craft breweries within 30 minutes of Bluepoint Brewery.
@aforst, no, it was a kitchen fire. The family on the first floor got out fine, but the man living on the second floor did not. DH said everything was freezing, thank god they had enough water on the engine to put it out, because the hydrants and everything were frozen solid. He said he had to hold his mask on his face because it wouldn't seal it was so frozen.
@dogfishhead, that would be so awesome. I love brewery tours. We went to Portland Oregon when I was pregnant and it was such a tease!
St Paul, MN here - all schools were closed down yesterday and most of them today. Our daycare said "if public schools are closed we are closed," so no Daycare for two days either. Whaaaat. AND MY CAR wouldn't start yesterday. Talk about feeling like you're stranded on an island. Oh boy.
Re: I'm a prisoner in my own home
Its our 3rd straight day of being in the house together and we've so far made it
