Breaking up with my pump

I am done pumping! No more, whatever BM she gets, she has to get herself.

What did you guys do with your pump before putting it in storage for the next baby? Just boil all the parts or should I replace the ones that come into contact with milk.

I threw out my manual which now I'm realizing I shouldn't of.

I have the medela swing pump.

Re: Breaking up with my pump

  • I just ran everything through the dishwasher one last time, hung the tubing up until it dried, put the flanges and tubing in a ziploc bag, and chucked it all into the farthest recesses of my closet (lest I be tempted to ceremonially burn it).

  • If you use your pump for another baby, you have to replace all the parts. So boiling them before storing is kinda pointless.

  • I have decided I am going to throw myself a party when I'm done pumping, lol!
  • I'd boil and save the parts for now in case in a month it two you decide to do it again (assuming you're still nursing). Then when you decide to fully retire the boobs I'd throw out the parts and buy new when the next baby comes
  • I bought all new parts for DS2, except tubing but ended up getting new tubing a month ago because i noticed mold in the other ones!
  • I reused all of the parts except for new tubing and membranes.  I already told my husband that once I'm done pumping I'm going to use the pump as a target at the shooting range.

  • Sorry to hijack the thread but why do you have to replace the parts for baby #2? Just curious, I didn't realize that.
  • I could see the tubing because of the condensation.  I wonder why everything else though?  It's plastic.  I'm sure Medela will always recommend replacing everything...

I'd put a Movember mustache fail, but then
you'd all have to look at it until February.
  • I was wondering the same thing about replacing everything. Right now my pump is just hanging out in the PnP haha. I figured I'd throw out the tubing and membranes, but I figured the yellow valves and flanges and stuff would be just fine?

  • Sorry, yeah that's what I meant. The membranes and tubing have to be replaced. The flanges and that other connector thing are fine (I'm talking about the Medela PISA... Not sure about other pumps.)
