Sinus drainage = nasty cough

I have been dealing with nasty sinus pressure for most of my pregnancy now I'm dealing with sinus drainage that I can not make it go away. I was given a prescription for amoxicillin and that isn't helping. I feel like it made it slightly worse. I sleep elevated at night, with a humidifier, taking sudafed, or tylenol if I'm feeling pain, taking hot showers, saline sprays, I've spoken to my doctor and he says the same thing every time. One nurses response was, "We've already been over this."
It the middle of the night, I feel like I'm kind of suffocating and I need to cough up whatever is draining and I end up throwing up. Every.single.time. I've been wanting to enjoy the rest of my pregnancy instead of feeling like a useless lump.
Any ideas would be great.

  • I didnt see the type of claritin when I went to walgreens recently. The dr was specific about what kind to get and I didn't realize how expensive it was! Benadryl worked to a point, but when I woke up in the middle of the night, it felt like a nerve was pinched in my forehead the two times I took it. Is that normal for benadryl?

  • Did you notice that you felt like you have to use the Neti pot all the time now? I was concerned I was going to feel like I couldn't breathe without using it.

Neti pot. Twice a day. It is gross. But it works. I have had sinus problems my entire life, and live on Sudafed. I wanted to avoid it while PG and so did the Neti pot instead. It's the kind of thing that you have to keep up with - it's not a one-time fix. But it works if you use it regularly. Normally, after a cold I develop a sinus infection. Last winter while doing the neti pot, I got 2 colds, but neither turned into a sinus infection for the first time in my life. My OB said that it cleans out the mucus, and also the saline makes the nasal passages more hostile to bacteria.

Honestly curious as to how a chiropractor will help relieve sinus pressure and drainage?

  • When my daughter has an ear infection I take her for an adjustment and it relieves the pressure and helps drain the ear. Chiropractor isn't just for your back, though having everything in alignment is key. It's all connected! You can have cranial adjustments. You have bones I your face and sinus and they can get out if sorts too!

When your body is in alignment, you get sick less often. They also do adjustments for ear infections and different things.
The more you know! :-)  I thought adjustments were only for pain relief.

  • I have seen a Chiro regularly his entire pregnancy. I see one that really specializes in pregnant mamas, especially in late pregnancy. I have never felt better. Im 39 weeks. I have no hip pain or back pain or pelvic pain, I can lift ad carry my 2 year all day, I can scrub the floor and stay busy all day. I have not gotten swollen and puffy, I don't get headaches. I had heartburn last week and I saw my Chiro and it hasn't returned. I know it is also because of good diet and sleep and general care I'm getting, but a lot of it is because of the Chiro care I'm getting as well. My Chiro is even available for adjustments during labor should I need one. She makes, in the middle of the night house calls (birth center)! Pretty awesome!
