Went to the dr today to get the rest of dd's shots and her pedi mentioned that next visit we will talk about beginning solids. She'll be 4mos old at the appointment and the dr mentioned starting rice cereal and oatmeal at 5mos. From reading these message boards, I know rice cereal isn't really good for babies, but I don't think I can tell my doctor "I'm not giving my baby rice cereal because people on a message board told me so." Does anyone have any legit sources of information about giving solids? I tried looking into baby led weaning, but it seems there isn't much research on it, just one main advocate. Also, I rather wait until 6mos to introduce solids so if anyone has legit sources of info on that, I would appreciate it.
Also, is there any information about how allergies come into play with BLW? DH and I don't have food allergies. I would love to just be able to give her some of what we eat, even if I did decide to puree it or something. But our food isn't as simple and bland as baby food so giving her an isolated food for 3 days to be sure there is no reaction doesn't seem like it would work with BLW.
One DD born 9/23/13.

Re: good resources on starting solids?
Sorry if I'm not much of a help and don't have any resources. I still havn't decided yet if I'll be giving my DD rice cereal but knowing it has lots of iron is a start.

I realize that yes, my kid my choice, but I'd rather have solid evidence on why I'm making my choices. I wouldn't be comfortable walking into the pedi's office and be all like "youre a doctor with years of experience? Well LOL I don't like your advice so not going to follow it because people online taught me it's bad." I mean, I could do that but I don't imagine getting much support with that. I love Kelly mom because she's always backing up her shit with research studies and solid sources.
