diapers... blow-outs and sleep training...

I thought I would just lump everything together, instead of posting a couple different things!
1) Is there such thing as a diaper that I won't have a blow out with? EVERY single time DS poops... blow out! I've tried a few different kinds of diapers, huggies gives him a wicked rash, pampers is good, but we blow out... luvs... blow outs... anyone found something that works??
2) I'm on the fence about sleep training, but getting up 3+ times a night (3 being a good night) is getting old really fast... any suggestions? Help me feel better about it if it comes down to it!
Thanks!!

Re: diapers... blow-outs and sleep training...

  • Have you tried going up a size in the diapers?

If you are blowing out every single time he shits, and you have tried every diaper out there, I think you are shit out of luck.

There are loads of sleep training options.

He's not even close to the weight for the next size up... we're in size 3 and the tabs over lap and it goes up his back quite far so I don't think size is the issue... and it explodes out his back..
I know there are lots, I'm just having issues coming to terms with sleep training.. I swore I never would....

  • I'm having the same problem with DS. We are going up a size on diapers and hope it works. If it doesn't a co-worker suggested night diapers..this will be our next step if option 1 doesn't work.

Hmm.  Where is it coming out of?  The top?  Sides?

Maybe the diaper is too big?

But he's too big for size 2... lol he explodes out the back....
He's also the weirdest shaped baby I've ever seen, come to think of it maybe that's the issue... He is like 0-3 waist and almost 9 month length lol the tabs overlap when I put the diaper on him.... lol

  • I don't know how much help I can be with diaper blow outs, except maybe to try different "styles" within the same brand? I know for Huggies, there are the little snugglers and the snug and dry styles. They're shaped a lil different from each other, and I know the snug and dry has elastic along the back side that helps to contain things. I don't know if pampers have something similar, but that might be an option.

As for sleep training, I don't think anyone can "talk" you into or out of it. It's a very personal choice and if you do decide that it's something you want to do, you really have to be all in and believe it's what's best for you and your family otherwise it's too easy to cave in and not follow through. It's hard, I won't sugar coat that, but at least for us, it was worth it. When we decided to sleep train, we were in a similar boat, where S would wake up 4-5 times a night, every night for over a month. I work, and I was literally a walking zombie. We did it over a weekend and although it was one of the toughest things I've ever had to do, she can now put herself to sleep, usually only gets up once a night to eat, and then I can put her back down without having to "hold" her for an hour before I could put her back into her crib. There are a lot of options if you're not ready for sleep training, but if you do decide that is the route you want to take, there are quite a few of us on this board who would be happy to share our stories with you and support you.

  • I know it's not an option for everyone but cloth diapers are a game changer for blow outs. We have literally zero in cloth. And had them daily in disposable. The elastic keeps em in.

Maybe plastic pants is the way to go. Lol

  • Confession:  I totally took a picture of his first major blowout (happened a little over a month ago) that he had to go in the sink for.  Me holding him up on the way to the sink, lol

Using that shit (literally) as blackmail when he is a teen.

  • We had issues also with everything except Huggies but the Snug and Dry gave him a rash. We switched to little movers and they are awesome! My SIL switched my niece to them too!

  • I usually have to move up a size well before my LO meets the weight requirement because of blowouts. It seems to always solve the problem. We use Huggies little movers.

We've always.. I mean always, had a blow out... regardless on size, when I switch... just always.... :(

  • I agree on going up a size. There's usually a HUGE overlap in sizes, too - like 10 pounds or so. We usually have to go up to the next size before he's technically big enough, and when he's well within the range of the size he's blowing out. Good luck!
