November 2012 Moms

went to start a nighttime routine....

never really needed one till now ...

Everything that could go wrong went wrong with it ending with me and SO bickering while she was going to sleep in his arms....BAD BAD (my bad at being so frustrated)

Tomorrow:  WD-40 on the glider, store the table leaves that are stopping her bedroom door from closing, one more story before trying bedtime

Anyone else have a LO that seems to go hyper before sleep?

Re: went to start a nighttime routine....

  • We have been doing a routine for a little while. New things get added every so often. Tonight was awful though. D was over tired, wouldn't let me brush his teeth, fell down banged his head on the wall, dragged something out of the closet that he shouldn't have and when I took it away he lost it. Then I lost it. We both ended up crying for Daddy out of frustration with each other.

Out of all of the challenges of being a mom, this sleep thing is the hardest. I just never expected it to be so difficult. Who doesn't love sleep? Babies, that's who!

  • DD gets thrown off when we don't have a routine in our day in general.  For example, when I go back to school next week, I am expecting some difficult nights with DD.  On nights when I don't get home until bedtime, she has difficult nights.  She wants to stay up and play instead of sleeping.  I've learned that there's only so much rocking that I can allow myself to do and some nights she just needs to cry for a little bit to get to sleep.  Before having DD I never thought that sleep would be an issue at times.

  • we are going to try the night routine again. i get home from work at 5:30pm so we'll have dinner, then a bath and teeth, play for a bit in his room cause he seems to hate it and then back to trying to sleep in the pack n play for a week before we try the crib again. bed at 7:30pm hopefully asleep by 8pm and he'll probably be up at 6am.

  • @techg0oddess good luck!

Today we were all over the place and there will be no routine to speak off.  She has a painful diaper rash and had a rough rough long day.... BUT it meant dad and I got to eat dinner at the table together while she was napping on the couch

Nope. We've done a routine since he was 2 months old. He goes to sleep with zero fuss.
This is us. I started his routine as soon as I stopped BF at 6 weeks.
    Worked like a dream.

    Good Luck!

H has a routine and it works well.  HOWEVER, if he is past his sell-by date by even 10 or 15 minutes, then hijinks ensue.

I can't speak for Sammie, but when H gets hyper that means he is overtired and bedtime will be a challenge.  Earlier is usually better for us.

    Good luck!
