3rd Trimester

TMI alert: 2nd pregnancy, SERIOUS hemorrhoids and scared to death of labor again

I'm 36 weeks with baby boy #2. I never had hemis in my life until after my prolonged first labor (8 hours of pushing a 9 1/2 baby). They went away after a while but came back with this pregnancy a few months ago. They've been annoying but not painful-until recently. I showed them to my dr and she said that there is one that is black (I think thrombosed?) but that they didn't look "that bad". She also told me I have vericose veins on my labia also causing intense swelling of the general area. Gave me some suppositories (which had previously been helping but no longer seem to be doing much of anything) some foam stuff and sent me on my way. The last 2 days the roids have been incredibly painful-like my skin is ripped and there is just open skin there. I'm terrified of what it's going to be like after labor if I am already so so so swollen and have huge, painful roids! Does anyone have experience with this?

  • i have similar TMI issues but not the same as you, but i would start taking either colace or miralax (after speaking with your dr of course) and try to prevent any issues so they have a chance to calm down before delivery.  good luck!

  • My hemorrhoids were huge in the weeks prior to labor with my first.  I was also terrified that with pushing they would just pop or something because they were so swollen (I know that's terribly disgusting).  I pushed for an hour and a half (and my mom did confirm that they looked "huge" - thanks mom!), but afterwards when there wasn't all that pressure, they went back down to 'normal' and were generally fine until now when I'm pregnant again.

  • With my second child I had bad hemmis and had to have surgery to remove them. I was worried about delivery too my doc said we would wait to push and he would keep an eye on them. I ended up pushing twice and she was out.
  • Thank you guys. I just pray that I have the same luck as far as pushing goes this time. The last dr I saw said that it would be best to limit all pushing to 2 hours max. The thought of surgery scares the crap out of me...how did that go? What did you guys do to help with the pain/swelling to just make it bearable leading up to labor?
  • Yours sound terrible. Mine came back a month ago but seem to have gotten smaller. Mine, like yours, came about from pushing out LO #1 years ago. For awhile they hurt, but some tucks pads and hem cream helped a little. I didn't get mondo crotch swelling until I went into labor with my first, I hope it doesn't happen with this guy too. UGH!!
Pregnant with #3, after thee, three's complete!!
  • Surgery was horrible I ended up back at er in soooo much pain it took 3 different types of pain meds before one worked. Lots of tucks all the time try not to push too much during bm.
  • This is definately one of those things they don't tell you about!!! Ugh!!!
