This had me in tears, and I'm not much of a crier. Funny how finally being a parent can change a person...
None of the furniture in my son's room is currently secured (not because we didn't know to do it, but just because he is still a newborn). I think I'll have my husband get that done sooner rather than later.
Its just awful. I can't imagine. I read this when I had my first daughter and pretty much every piece of furniture in our house is secured to the wall now. It is crazy how easily a big, heavy piece of furniture can tip over when all the drawers are out.
I just made the mistake of reading this while my little one sleeps on my chest. Balled my eyes out. DF will be turning himself right back around when he gets and heading to the store. Thank you for sharing this.

I read this with my sweet baby girl on my chest and I can't even imagine how that mother feels. I'm glad I read this. I will secure my furniture and I'm squeezing my girl a little tighter right now.
We haven't secured yet either but I told DH we better just start now! Is there an appropriate time to babyproof? I kinda figure it isn't necessary until they start crawling right?
Just read this as my two year old sleeps in his new room with a dresser that I just moved in today and have not secured. I probably won't sleep tonight.
Also, make sure you keep all chemicals and cleaning supplies completely locked away from children. A two year old where I used to live drank a bottle of Draino when his mom wasn't looking and ended up chemically burning his organs and insides. He barely survived.
I read this last year and it really hit home for me.
A couple years ago my oldest pulled a dresser over on herself. She got up earlier and climbed out of bed and started playing. She decided to climb her dresser. She pulled out all the drawers and when she got to the top it fell over. I woke to a loud bang and went running to her room. She was under the dresser. I lifted it off of her with my heart in my throat. She ended up with a concusion and some bruises but otherwise she was fine.
It was a dresser that took two grown men to carry up the stairs and put into place when we moved in. It was really heavy.
When I first read this I bawled my eyes out. Our furniture is now secure and I have my H check it all every month.

Wow. Thank God she's ok. I can't imagine. I don't want to imagine.
My 2 1/2 yo DD is laying on the couch taking a nap and I have dd2 laying on my chest. I just kept looking at them while I read this and couldn't help but bawl. I don't have DD1's dresser secured to the wall and I definitely am doing this asap. She may have to sleep in my bed until it gets done.

Does anyone know how to secure a dresser to the wall? I want to do this but have never heard of it before.
You can buy furniture straps to secure the furniture to the wall. Amazon has them, as does our local grocery store. I'm sure babies r us would sell them as well.
Don't forget to secure tv's as well!

Hardware stores carry them too, I believe. And make sure secure bookshelves, entertainment centers, and similar furniture, not just dressers.
