MS or the flu?

So far in my pregnancy, I've been nauseous about 90% of the time, however, I haven't thrown up at all. For the past week I was starting to feel better, and this morning I feel awful and I threw up at work. Now I'm not sure if I've caught the flu that's going around, or if it's just morning sickness. What's the difference? lol

Re: MS or the flu?

  • I had the flu a few weeks ago for about 5 days thanks to DH and it being spread at his work. It was awful and hit me fast, like I dropped DS off at 9:30 at school feeling fine and by 10:45 at Bath & Body Works, I couldn't leave fast enough to get home to lay down. I had the chills, no energy, vomited 6 times in a 2 hour period and twice the next day in 30 minutes, and had a fever of up to 103. You'll definitely know if you've got the flu.

  • Morning sickness typically does not produce a fever. You may feel a little achy from your body vomitting if you do get physically sick but not the way a fever will you the chills and body aches.

  • I'm just getting over the flu. You'll know. I didn't have much of a fever, but the chills and aches were awful. Hopefully you're not getting it!
  • I've only had the stomach flu once in my life and it was horrible. I couldn't keep anything down, even water, which was pretty bad because I was so thirsty from throwing up all the time. I couldn't get out of bed. Standing up made me dizzy and light headed. I had diarrhea to go with it. It was definitely different from the morning sickness I'm feeling now. You'll know it if it hits.

My morning sickness has changed a little over the last two weeks. I went from being consistently nauseous to having sudden bouts of nausea that made me throw up and then I would feel better. I'm now starting to feel better more consistently. It changes.

  • If you had the flu, you'd run a fever (usually) but would have a rotten cough and stuffy nose and sore throat. A man cold on steroids, pretty much.

I had bronchitis (I'm still getting over it) and three days later, DH came down with Swine Flu. About a week and half after my bronchitis diagnosis, I came down with the stomach virus--it was bad.

All this crud is going around...stomach virus, flu. If you had either one, you'd know. But if there's any question at all to you having the flu, go get tested and if nothing else, take the TamiFlu as a preventative if you've been around someone who was sick with the flu.

I took TamiFlu as a preventative when my husband got the flu. It worked. Was expensive, but better than me and baby getting flu!
  • Well, I've got a mild fever, so I guess I'll just chill out and keep an eye on it. I thought it was a bit strange that morning sickness would hit as soon as I got into the second trimester. >_<
