Flaky skin and acne

My baby is just past three weeks and his face is so dry and flaky the last few days. I can also see the start of infant acne.

I don't think there's much I can do about the acne, but I'm not sure whether I should use a moisturizer or Aquafor for the dryness. Has anyone found a product that works or should I just wait it out? Also, he's FF, so no magical BM elixir for us...

Re: Flaky skin and acne

  • Same issue here. I asked my sis who has two kids and she said she uses Aquaphor on their faces all the time.

  • I always used breast milk, but before i tried that my pedi said to just clean with water- no soaps or scented lotions on the face. Can't really speak for of it works though. And I use lanolin for flaky skin

  • I use triple lanolin lotion on dd face it has also worked great for her cradle cap.
  • Yeah my doc said that nothing over the counter really works so just clean with warm water . My baby girl has baby acne pretty bad . It's on her face, scalp and part if her neck . She also has dry skin on top if that. She is 51/2 weeks old . I try to clean her after every feeding and randomly throughout the day . I think it helps
  • Mine has acne too. From what I've read on the internet, it will have to go away on its own.

As for the dry flaky scalp, a girl at BBB recommended mustela foam shampoo for infants, along with scrubbing his head gently with a washcloth when using it, and combing and brushing after. It has helped a ton! Hope that all makes sense.

  • A nurse in the hospital told me to comb lo's hair while soap is still in it. It works awesome. Pulls the flakes out and helps from more developing so far. She will be 4 weeks this week.
  • I looked this up today, warm water is really all you can do. It's caused by hormones, if you breast feed it could last a couple weeks longer than if you are FF. but it does go away on its own.
