Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Swing..sleeping habits!

So we finally realized that our DD was dependent on the swing for naps. We tried for her to sleep in crib during the day for naps but she would cry. My DD is 6 1/2 months & we are finally putting away the swing. Though the swing has saved us & we always felt safe her being there. However, it has kicked us in the butt now.lol I am not sure if its b/c she teething but she's giving me a hard time putting her to bed. I have to rock her for a while- I am not sure I can do CIO, I only last 10 min before I go in to settle her down.

Any other tips & advise on how to make her a better sleeper w/out being rocked?

Re: Swing..sleeping habits!

  • Nurse to sleep?? I'm all for doing what works & I don't really buy "sleep training." It really depends on your kid. Not sure how else to help you other than if she needs to be held to sleep then what's big deal? She'll grow out if it eventually

  • She's formula feed now... so I don't nurse her anymore. However, I have her routine: bath, bottle & book. I don't mind rocking her to sleep I just don't want to create an issue for her later on. I guess all the books, docs tell you that the aim is for her to fall asleep independently....

I think you need to do what works. Ppl in other counties do everything the opposite of us & their babies are all happy. Follow YOUR gut & do what you want. Not all babies can be put in a crib & fall asleep on their own. She won't be this small forever so enjoy the cuddles!!

  • Maybe do book before bottle so bottle is last? The bottle might lull her to sleep. That was the routine I had with my DD. Rock her to sleep if that's what she needs. With my twins we don't have quite as consistant of a routine. We do CIO some but I'll only let them go 10 minutes or so before I go in to sooth. I'll rock or even lay down with one of the boys if they are really fussy.  Don't worry about rocking her to sleep. We just had dinner with friends of ours and the husband said he rocked all of his kids to sleep until they were 3 years old. Their oldest is a freshman at college, living in the dorms and doing just fine so she wasn't ruined for life or anything .

    Hope this helps

I can't attest to this, as I did not have to do this but I remembered reading this when LO was young.
