XP: Playroom redesign, WWJ13 do?

We have a playroom that's got primary colored curtains and Sesame Street decals because DS1 was 18m when we bought the house and that's what he liked at the time.  It's a cute room but DS2 is so incredibly beyond SS and it's all superheroes, all the time.  But we have DS2 now.  I really want to redo the room as a super hero room and have a lot of cute ideas.  I tend to think DS2 is going to be happy to toddle after his big brother and love what he loves but then I think I'm making assumptions and sort of forcing older stuff on him instead of letting him have baby stuff.  I'm probably majorly over thinking this but would you re-do the room for the kid who knows WTF is going on and will flip his shit over it or leave well enough alone until DS2 is old enough that you can be sure the room will make them both happy?

  • I would either wait, or have a wall that your DS1 can decorate. Maybe he can add the decals where he wants. Keep the curtains.

I would do the superheroes. LO Is going to most likely love and watch the same thing as his big brother. Also even if LO doesn't end up loving superheroes which most boys do he won't care for years and by that time your older son may be on to something new.

  • Could you make it neutral and add super hero touches so that they are easily replaced? However, I do agree that your DS2 will probably love whatever his older brother does. My BIL is 12 and still loves super heros :) so you probably can't go wrong.
  • I mean, most of the room is STUFF so it's not like there's a ton of decorating and Q already is interested in seriously, anything his brother is playing with.  He wants nothing to do with baby toys if Aiden is playing with his action figures.  I was thinking of getting them two "super hero colored" bean bags (but not actual patterns so they'll grow with them - like red and navy) for their little tv corner and some cute signs that have to do with super heroes.  The big commitment would be a skyline mural...

An aside - even though we've got this big playroom, Q has been given his own dedicated corner in the room right outside it lol  It's got pillows and foam flooring and a basket of his toys.  The playroom is much too "old" for him right now.  We're working on making it safer and making sure Aiden knows what things Q can and can't play with.

  • I don't think chaos is a good theme lol  I'm not at all against themes for a playroom since it's not like, out in my living room.  It's more "keep the Sesame Street theme for now" or "Tell Q to suck it up - super heroes it is" lol

  • I would go to super heroes. Q doesn't have a clue and A will Freakin love it! Just make it easily interchangeable so Q can swap some things out when he cares (if he cares to deviate from super heroes).
