Tub/tile question

We had our tub tile cleaned and resealed in April. Or so I thought. It seems like the dude just covered the mold and now when I clean our tub, I'm just scraping off the cover up he put on! I'm fuming since we are re-listing our condo in a couple weeks so I emailed him this photo saying he needs to rectify this.
If he ends up being an asshole and I need to do something quickly, anyone ever get rid of something like this successfully? It's so gross and we have no fan or window in our bathroom so mold grows easily.

Re: Tub/tile question

  • Is that on the grout? The picture is a bit hard to see. If so bleach is your best option to kill it. They have grout paint you can use to cover the actual grout up and cover the stains. I'm not sure about codes because you are in a high rise but doesn't a bathroom require a bathroom fan or some type or air ciruclation?

  • I would clean with bleach and a toothbrush, there is a grout sealer that is a roll on that may help. Honestly I would put a small fan in there and let it stay dried out. Or clear caulking/silicone over it. Silicone is a mess though, fyi.

I know! I hate there is no ventilation and thought there were codes/rules about it too.

Should I just spray bleach on it before bed to get it killed overnight and so I don't asphyxiate us?

  • I also suggest using the bleach and a scrub brush. If a guy came out and claims to have sealed it I'm guessing as soon as he sees your picture he's going to be willing to rectify the situation. April wasn't that long ago so you definitely shouldn't have mold already growing if it was sealed correctly. Try to be only a a little pissed until you know if he's going to fix it or not, then if not you can lose your shit on him. FX!

  • When I use it, I put a box fan in and just go at it. Keep the kiddo corraled away

  • Haha, I sent a nice email with the photo and will remain calm outwardly to get my way. ;)

I'd just put a fan on it as you work and keep the kids away until it dries. Make sure it's fully dry first. Give it even 24 hours. Also if this is where mold grows constantly you might want to seal it with a grout sealer after. It comes clear and you just paint it on basically. Caulking around the area would be a great idea as well. Water gets in the smallest spots, its crazy! Use a bathroom/kitchen 100% silicone caulk that is mold and mildew resistant. Our shower surround is all tile. We have to recaulk it at least 1 time a year around the base, where the tile/tub meet. It's not a fun job but something you have to do! GL!

  • Thanks ladies.  They did reply and are coming back out next week to fix it.  I'm glad, but I still feel like they don't really "clean it" but maybe they'll do better this time.  We are hoping to be outta here by mid March anyway, FX!
