Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Diarrhea & Teething

Hello. This is my first time posting here-I usually post on my month board but it's been slow so I was hoping for more feedback by posting here. My daughter is 17 months old and has had mild diarrhea for the past week and a half. Mild meaning usually one diaper a day, twice she has had 3 diapers a day. I have taken her to the pediatrician, who thinks that it is caused from a combination of a recent cold, stomach bug, and teething. She only has eight teeth, but I can see almost every other one of her teeth breaking through the gums. The doctor said that diarrhea often lasts at least two weeks in toddlers, and since she has had no fever, is eating and hydrated, and hasn't had an increase in amount to only bring her in if it doesn't go away within two weeks, or if there is any change. I'm still very concerned, and wondering how much teething is to blame. She is a drool factory from all the teeth coming in. I still plan on bringing her back to the doctor at the end of the week if it's not resolved, but have any of your children experienced diarrhea while teething? Thanks for your input.

Re: Diarrhea & Teething

  • Every single time. Dd has a nasty diaper rash right now from her molars from the 1-2 runny poops per day that she's had for a week.

  • We are going through it right now with the eye tooth, it is very little but almost every diaper and his rash is so bad he screams when we have to change him.  Teething and diarrhea are very common I wouldn't worry too much.
