FTM, worried and I googled.

edited January 2014 in May 2014 Moms
Ok so I've been feeling kicks really low. Like she could possibly kick the chair I'm sitting in. I've talked to my SIL and she said that's how her baby was in this past pregnancy. And I've read on here that others are experiencing the same. But on Friday I had a lot of pressure. The only way I can explain it is when you go to pull out a tampon. Which leads me to my google search. I googled Incompetent cervix. There was a women describing the same thing when she lost her baby.

Am I over thinking this or should I call my dr?

Edit do to wrong use of words.

  • I know nothing about that issue, but I am a firm believer in calling
my OB if I have a concern. It never hurts to call the office, explain what you are experiencing, and see if they think you should come in! Until then would just take it easy to be on the safe side.

Have you had your A/S yet? Seems like they would have picked up something like that, but I again, no experience with that issue. Wishing you the best! Probably baby is just really low.

  • I'm pretty sure you could google anything and find a story about someone who lost their baby. Stay away from google and self diagnosis!

If something has you concerned, call your doctor. Maybe my midwifes office is just fantastic but she told me that they would rather check me out a million times and have nothing wrong than have me worry/second guess myself if I'm concerned about something.

Although it's likely to be nothing, you are obviously still worried. I think a quick phone call will ease your mind.
  • You can call but I called last week about the same exact pressure. Only way u could describe it was it felt like my vagina was pushing something out. My ob said it was totally normal. But i always call if im worried.

Yes this exactly! My doctor told me they would rather see me everyday than have me be worried. Call them- even if you feel crazy, ultimately you'll feel better knowing everything's ok :)

  • Call if you are worried. They can check your cervix (pretty sure you are referring to incompetent cervix not uterus) via ultrasound.

FWIW, with DS I felt pressure really low around this point in pg. Turns out i had overdone it that day and my ab muscles couldnt keep up...thus baby was hanging low. The pressure that dilates the cervix is distinct to me now, but if this is your first pg you cant know that by experience. Call if you are concerned...and step back from Dr Google.

This. Maybe you over did it or something, but for reassurance call your doc, but quit the Googles. ;)

    Hope it's nothing.

  • I think google and WebMd should be banned during pregnancy. I don't think that they have every helped calmed any ones nerves but made things worst.

THIS is exactly what my doctor told me when I first got pregnant (but of course I didn't listen and learned the hard way). As PPs have asked- have you had your A/S yet? I'm sure they would have picked it up! And call and get any and all doubts out of your mind!

All of this exactly, including the "overdoing it" part. I've only googled once this pregnancy, and it was at 2am to make sure my coughing couldn't induce labor (stupid I know) but in general, I recommend staying far away from Dr. Google.

  • Thanks everyone. I called the on call line and got a call back from a nurse. She says it's normal, but I'm still worrying about it. Cause of course I read that one story of the girl who had a perfect 20 week ultra sound and a week later she went into labor. I've had previous ultrasounds, but I feel like they wernt done very well. Two weeks ago I started my new ob but I don't get to actually see her till the 16th.

  • I've learnt not to google because absolutely everything you google will result in a "i/my friend had that and lost their baby" post. You won't count the 99 good answers, but you'll zero in on the one that will convince you you're miscarrying.

If it helps, my baby kicks very low from time to time, but she's absolutely fine. All sealed in there tightly. Sometimes I can feel her by my belly button and other days she's down by my hoohoo and it makes me cringe a little. If you're in any way worried, call your doc.

  • Same boat here. I had been sitting for a few hours today working on a craft project and then when standing feel a heavy pressure. My LO is way low (head down in pelvis at 18 week a/s) and that's where I still feel movement (bikini line or lower). It worries me only because of pelvic stabbing pains, hip pain and BHs. Now I'm laying down and that seems to help (I guess because LOs weight is not directly on pelvic area). If it bothers me at work tomorrow (where I can't lay down) I figure I'll call...

But as for Dr. Google, stay away! It will only tell you that you're dying or you/your child are at risk from everything horrible and worse case scenario.
  • My doctor told me to NEVER look up anything on the internet. If you have concerns or worries definitely call don't hesitate. Plenty of women call for crazier reasons, your reason seems like it could be serious or could be nothing. Hope everything goes well.
  • 23w3d here. DD2 is still dancing on my cervix. It's fairly normal. Unless you are leaking, you aren't having cervical issues. And even if you are "leaking" and your baby is still super low, chances are they've just literally kicked the piss out of you. Stop worrying, and googling, it fixes nothing. If you are still seriously concerned, make an appointment if your next one isn't soon enough for you.

  • I felt the exact pressure you are describing and my doctor had me come in for a cervical check and measured it with ultrasound. This can be a symptom of incompetent cervix but can also be totally normal in pregnancy, and so it is best to have your doctor evaluate you as it can be serious.
  • My new dr is out till next week and her nurse said not to worry. Of course I'm still worried. So I called my old dr's nurse and she talked to him and he wants to see me tomorrow. He's retiring in April :(( I wish he would just wait one more month!
