Post partum chills?

Cecelia was born almost 1 week ago. I was totally prepared for the post partum sweats but instead I've been getting chills. It's rare that I'm so hot that I sweat. I have a different smell that I can't wash away, not using soap as it makes C refuse to feed.

Anybody experience chills instead? Maybe they're coming soon? When and how long did you have the sweats?

Re: Post partum chills?

  • I had chills starting day 3 PP that lasted a little over a week. At first I thought I had a fever but when I took my temp it was 98.1. I didn't worry too much since I remember this happening with DD1 as well. The night sweats lasted a little over two weeks PP. It'll end soon!

  • I was complaining about this to a friend who gave birth 6 mo ago. She still has the chills and sweats...god help me they don't last as long as hers!

  • I have the chills as well. I have been generally cold since delivering DD2. I have a space heater in my room now and am most comfortable around 82 degrees. I know mine is a result of PP anemia though.

  • Thanks for the responses. My normal body temp is 95.5 but pregnancy and labor made it around 98. Maybe my body is trying to settle back down to homeostasis.
  • I had the chills and am still just cold all the time. Never have gotten the sweats though.
  • Totally suffering from the chills and the sweats. I hate being cold too. My DH thinks I'm nuts because he says it's hot in the house and I am sitting there shivering. My normal body temp is 98.8, and when I'm shivering it's 97.6. Totally no fun. Waking up at 3:00am to feed, being sweaty, and then being cold... Makes it just that much more of a "fun" experience. Hoping it goes away soon.
  • I'm freezing which is really weird for me. I feel like I can not get warm. I am 14 days pp.

  • I'm cold all the time, too. I'm 6 weeks PP so I'm not sure when this will end.
  • Yes!! I have the chills so bad, especially after nursing. I had them after DS1 was born too. I think it lasted a few weeks until my hormones evened out.

  • I woke up with chills so bad one night I was shaking uncontrollably and it scared me so bad I started crying (well because of that and lack of sleep and general stress). Then a few minutes later it passed. I mostly get hot PP when I've always been a person who gets cold.
  • I've been colder than usual but I attribute it to being extra tired. The two are linked for me for some reason.
