Hi everyone- I am having a planned c section of my boys on Tuesday when they will be 36 weeks exactly. We don't anticipate any major issues (growth and fluid look ok, etc...) but I am trying to mentally prepare myself for them to be in the NICU. I know the typical preemie issues may be breathing, jaundice, blood sugar. I think 36 weeks it could go either way- they could be totally fine and end up with me, or they could be in the NICU and not end up going home with us at the same time. I am most worried about breastfeeding or pumping for them to get milk if they aren't allowed with me. I'm fine with supplementing with formula if they need it, but would prefer BM. I think the unknown is scaring the heck out of me. I know my hospital makes them go to NICU if they are under 5 pounds and they should be just over that hypothetically. Any words of wisdom for babies born at 36 weeks?
**update**Well just found out at growth scan baby B has late onset IUGR and is 4 lb 11 oz in 5th percentile. baby A is small as well but in 14th percentile at 5 lb 6 oz. MFM says since I am delivering tomorrow, nothing else to do. but of course, now i'm even more worried!

Re: 36 weeks mono/di twins coming on Tuesday **update**
Thanks so much for your reply!!
They are taking them at 36 because they are mono-di meaning they are in the same placenta and delivery is recommended between 34-37 weeks due to possibility of risks of placenta issues.
Your milk may not come on right away, mine took 6 days to start coming in. If you want to BF, pump every two hours after delivery, it won't flow right away but it does help with stimulation.
I know in PAIF you mentioned DH sleeping at home during your stay. He will need ALL the rest he can get. Between NICU visits and helping you, it will be a lot, that he will need to be ready for.
As hard as it may be, sleep at night. While Nia was in the NICU, I did not sleep, even during the night. I called the NICU after every3 hour feeding to check her sugar and see how she was doing, and I just couldnt sleep. I knoww it will be hard to be away from your little guys, but momma has to be well rested for her guys. I was offered a benadryl that I refused because I didn't want to be too sleepy incase my baby needed me.
Nicu visits are a lot to deal with. Btwn entering, the overwhelming feeling of seeing your babies, to leaving them. I cried every day I went up stairs. Ask the nurses If you can have one of their blankets, I slept with hers, smelled like formula and it was comforting. Always eat before you go down, try to go to NICU as comfortable as possible so you can tolerate staying as long as you want, include pain meds. Motrin was better for me because other meds made me groggy and sleepy. Almost too tired to hold her.
Oh, eat like CRAZY before midnight. Seriously I went from Thursday midnight to Saturday afternoon without eating!!!!!!!
Idk If this helped at all, I'm just so glad that your day is finally coming!!!!! Can't wait to hear an update, I'm rooting for ya!!!
Their story is pretty inspiring- now healthy happy 5 year old boys.
Wishing you all the best for a smooth delivery and limited NICU time!
